Chugoku Region: Cat Temple, Seaside Shrine, and Tottori Sand Dunes 🇯🇵🚲 Japan Road Trip Part 6!

This is the next stop on our 3 week road trip & cycling tour around Japan!

We’re driving along Honshu’s Sea of Japan coast this time, mainly through the Chugoku Region (中国地方). We’re stopping at Tsunoshima Bridge in Shimonoseki, Motonosumi Shrine (元乃隅神社) in Yamaguchi Prefecture, a cat temple, Matsue Castle (松江城) in Shimane Prefecture, and the Tottori Sand Dunes.

We also finish in Kyoto Prefecture (part of the Kansai Region) at the end of the video, with a ride along Amanohashidate (天橋立), one of Japan’s three famous views.

The Chugoku region is subdivided into the Sanyo region along the Seto Inland Sea, and the less populated San’in region along the sea of Japan Coast. These regions refer to two sides of the Chugoku mountain range, with San’in meaning “the shaded side” and Sanyo meaning the “sunny side”. Despite the name, we found the San’in side to be beautifully sunny as well, and really enjoyed driving along the vibrant blue waters of this less visited coastline.

  1. Thanks for showing San-in region which has been rarely shown on youtube.
Especially that cat temple was such a great discovery, which I think I have never seen before.Tokyo has their famous cat temple with tons of white lucky cat statues, but this one seems to be much more intrigue.
I am looking forward to seeing the next chapter of this great adventure.

  2. Super! You really should get sponsored by the Japan Tourism Board!!! The ice cream sandwich looked like my kind of favorite summer sandwich. This route was basically my summer ride last summer. I rode from Shimonoseki to Tsuruga along the coast. It is such a beautiful and quiet place to ride so I'll try to go back someday… but not this summer as I've decided to ride San Francisco to New York. It will be my first time riding in America so I'm petrified. You two fancy joining me? 😉

  3. Happy new year! Summer Japan is such a vibe! Thank you for sharing all these beautiful views
