農民が神の託宣により、五穀の吉凶や1年間の気象・災難を占う神事で、千数百年の歴史があるといわれています。水垢離をとった男性たちが籠り屋に3日間籠り、1日目夜に田遊びの儀式「ヨイサー」を行い、2日目は餅つき、3日目には信仰の山「羽山」に登ってかがり火の明かりのもとで神の託宣をいただく神秘的な祭りです。 また、地区の名称「金沢（かねざわ）」は「蟹のいる沢＝蟹沢」に由来します。大きな蟹や蛇が農作物を荒し家畜や人々に危害を与えるため、神社に籠り、神の託宣を得てようやく退治できた、という伝説に基づくのがこの神事です。臨む人々の信仰は厚く、厳しく潔斎した上でないと結界に入ることは許されません。厳格な決まりにそって全てが進みます。
This divine ritual, in which farmers forecast the fortunes of the five grains and predict the weather and calamities for the coming year based on divine oracles, is said to have a history spanning over a thousand years. Men who have undergone a purification ritual seclude themselves for three days in a retreat. On the first night, they perform the ritual dance “Yoisa,” on the second day they make rice cakes, and on the third day, they climb the sacred mountain “Hazan” to receive the divine oracle by the light of bonfires in a mysterious festival.
The name of the district, “Kanezawa,” is said to originate from “Kanisawa,” meaning “stream where crabs are found.” This ritual is based on a legend where large crabs and snakes would ravage crops and harm livestock and people. Only by seeking refuge in the shrine and receiving a divine oracle were the community able to vanquish them. Participants are deeply devout, and entry into the sacred area is not permitted without strict purification. Everything proceeds according to strict rules.
