木枠の中ゆらゆら10万匹、金魚初市 愛知・弥富の市場 First Goldfish Market in Yatomi City, Aichi Prefecture
全国有数の金魚の産地である愛知県弥富市の東海観賞魚卸売市場で15日、金魚の初市があった。リュウキン、デメキンなど色鮮やかな約30種類、10万匹ほどが「かんこ」と呼ばれる木枠に入れられ、競りにかけられた。
この日は主に東海や関東から、約40人の仲買人が参加。足元に流れてきた金魚の大きさやつや、元気に泳いでいるかを見定め、独特の言い回しで札を投げ入れていった。

The first goldfish market of the year was held on the 15th at the Tokai Ornamental Fish Wholesale Market in Yatomi, Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading goldfish producing areas. Around 100,000 brightly colored goldfish of about 30 different species, including Ryukin and Demekin, were placed in wooden frames called “kanko” and put up for auction.
On this day, around 40 middlemen participated, mostly from the Tokai and Kanto regions. They assessed the size and shine of the goldfish that floated by their feet, and whether they were swimming vigorously, before throwing in their bids with unique phrases.
