Although it was cloudy on the middle day of the three-day weekend, the “Dondo Yaki” festival took place without any problems this year. Dondo Yaki is a traditional Japanese event. The pine decorations and shimenawa that were displayed in the house are burned together with the “yagura” made from bamboo and straw to pray for good health and a good harvest.
三連休の中日、曇りがちでしたが今年も「どんど焼き」が無事に行われました。どんど焼きは日本の伝統行事です。家に飾ってあった松飾りやしめ縄を、竹やわらで作った「やぐら」と共に、無病息災や五穀豊穣を願って燃やします。地方によっては「とんど」「左義長」とも呼ばれます。

行事に疎い私はどんど焼きと左義長がイコールであることを今頃知りました。アルミホイルに巻かれた団子も見受けられて時代を感じます。
