This video shows you the atmosphere of “Hatsumode” on January 1st at two major shrines in Asahikawa: Gokoku Shrine and Kamikawa Shrine.
Hatsumoude is the first shrine visit of the New Year.
Some people visit not on the morning of January 1st but right at the moment the date changes. However, since the midnight hours in Asahikawa were extremely cold again this year, I decided to visit during the day.
Despite the same snowy scenery, the two shrines I visited this time each had a distinct atmosphere, with lively food stalls and the presence of a shrine surrounded by forest leaving a strong impression.
