竹ノ塚駅周辺がリトルマニラと呼ばれているのはなぜでしょうか。 竹ノ塚駅周辺には数多くのフィリピン人が在住しており、かつてはフィリピンパブが軒を連ねるなど多くのフィリピン人でにぎわっていたようです。こうした点から竹ノ塚駅周辺がリトルマニラと呼ばれるようになったと言われています。しかし、現在では、パブを経営している方々の高齢化も進み、更にコロナ禍によって打撃を受け、店を閉めることになったケースもあるようです。元々竹ノ塚駅周辺に住むフィリピン人の数はそこまで多くない地域だったようですが、最初に住みだした人の伝手を頼って次第に増えたのだと言われています。 また、竹ノ塚駅は埼玉県のすぐそばに位置しているため、埼玉の工場で働くフィリピン人にとって通勤しやすい環境であったことも人気の理由といえるでしょう。

Why is the area around Takenotsuka Station called Little Manila? Many Filipinos live in the area around Takenotsuka Station, and the area used to be bustling with Filipinos, with many Filipino pubs lined up. It is said that because of this, the area around Takenotsuka Station came to be called Little Manila. However, these days, the people who run pubs are aging, and they have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, leading to some cases of pubs having to close. Originally, it seems that the number of Filipinos living around Takenotsuka Station was not that large, but it is said that the number gradually increased by relying on the contacts of the first people who moved there. Another reason for its popularity is that Takenotsuka Station is located right next to Saitama Prefecture, making it easy for Filipinos working at factories in Saitama to commute.
