Japan, Part I – from Tokyo to Kamakura
A journey through Japan and South Korea. We start the tour in Tokyo, the capital of Japan with its fourteen million inhabitants. It is a city of apparent contradictions. Ultra-modern skyscrapers and futuristic architecture can be found next to wooden houses, shrines and ancient temples. Elderly ladies in kimonos sit next to young women in Gothic Lolita looks on the underground. The programme includes Tokyo’s most famous Shinto shrine Meiji Jingu, the Harajuku district, a lively area with boutiques and shops, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden and Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, Sensoji.
The train journey to Kita-Kamakura takes about an hour. From here, you can hike along some shrines and temples to the great Buddha Kamakura Daibutsu. Part 2 then goes to Takayama and Shirakawago. A detailed travel report in German can be found at https://reiseinfo4you.de/japan-2024/
