One day, Mitsunari, who was born in Ishida-cho, Nagahama City, was undergoing training at Kannon-ji Temple.

Hideyoshi, who was the lord of Nagahama Castle at the time, stopped by on his way to falconry, and first offered Mitsunari a large teacup filled to the brim with lukewarm tea, then half a cup of tea that was slightly hotter than before, and finally a small bowl of hot tea.

Hideyoshi was impressed by Mitsunari’s thoughtfulness and eventually took Mitsunari into his employ. This is the famous story of “Three Confections of Tea.” This statue was erected in front of the station in September 1981, with the meeting of the two men as its motif.
