Izu-Kogen Station (伊豆高原駅) to Shuzenji (修善寺) via Kawazu Town (河津町), Amagi Pass (天城峠), and Shuzenji (修善寺), Shizuoka (静岡県):
Join me on a relaxing 2.5-hour drive from Izu-Kogen Station, a popular summer retreat known for its many vacation homes and mild climate. I’ll traverse the scenic local roads of the Izu Peninsula, passing through Kawazu, famous for its early-blooming Kawazu-zakura cherry blossoms, capturing the serene beauty of Japan’s countryside.
Experience the iconic Kawazu Nanadaru Loop Bridge, with its spiraling design and panoramic views of the surrounding forests and valleys. The journey continues along local roads through Amagi Pass, rich in history and culture, featuring sights such as Joren Waterfall (浄蓮の滝) and the wasabi fields that inspired scenes from Yasunari Kawabata’s The Dancing Girl of Izu (伊豆の踊子).
My destination is Shuzenji, the oldest hot spring town on the Izu Peninsula, often referred to as the “Little Kyoto of Izu” (伊豆の小京都). With its historic temples, traditional inns, and peaceful atmosphere, Shuzenji offers the perfect conclusion to this scenic drive.
I had planned to share a walking tour of Shuzenji on my sister channel, but due to gimbal issues, the footage became unstable, and I regretfully had to remove it.
On the return trip, I traveled through the local streets of small towns, offering a glimpse into the everyday life of rural Japan. This footage is included in the second half of the video, providing a unique contrast between scenic landscapes and day-to-day local life.
