Just a minute’s walk from Susukino Station, this izakaya is renowned for its unique “tsukko meshi,” drawing countless food enthusiasts. Tonight, accompanied by friends, I embarked on a culinary adventure, eager to experience this feast for both the eyes and palate.
The restaurant’s interior exuded traditional Japanese charm, with wooden beams and warm lighting creating a cozy ambiance. Guests gathered around tatami mats, their lively conversations blending with the staff’s cheerful laughter, filling the space with vibrant energy.
We ordered the signature dish, “tsukko meshi,” anticipating the unique spectacle. A staff member, clad in a red uniform, approached our table, holding a large bowl brimming with glistening salmon roe. With enthusiastic calls, spoonfuls of the vibrant orange-red jewels cascaded onto a bed of rice, forming an enticing “salmon roe mountain.” The entire restaurant joined in cheering us on, creating an electric atmosphere that heightened our excitement.
