秋の笹流ダム/函館市 Sasanagare Dam in autumn / Hakodate City
笹流ダム（ささながれダム）は、北海道函館市を流れる二級河川・亀田川水系笹流川に建設された水道専用ダムである。函館市は1854年の日米和親条約で箱館港(函館港)が開港して以来、急激な人口増加に伴ない生活用水の不足が深刻になりつつあった。そこで従来の地下水や河川からの直接取水に代わる新しい手法として、国内では横浜市に続いて2番目に近代水道技術が導入され、函館市への水道供給増強を図る水源として大正10年(1921年)にダム建設が着工され、大正12年(1923年)に完成した。当時はダム建設の為のコンクリートが極めて高価であった為、コンクリート量を節約できる日本本土では初めてのパットレスダムが建設された(日本初のパットレスダムは1918年建設、南樺太:現ロシア領南サハリンの手井ダム)。堤体
中央部130.9ｍはパットレスダム、左岸取り付け部330.91ｍ、右岸取り付け部37.58ｍはは重力式コンクリートダムとしている。歴史的価値の高いダムであり、土木学会選奨土木遺産に指定されている。
Sasanagare Dam is a dam built on the Sasanagare River, a system of the Kameda River, exclusively for water supply. Since the port of Hakodate was opened in 1854, the city of Hakodate has been facing serious water shortages due to rapid population growth. As a result, modern water supply technology was introduced to the city, the second in Japan after Yokohama, and construction of the dam began in 1921 as a water source to increase water supply to Hakodate, and was completed in 1923. The dam is a padless dam, which saves on the amount of concrete used. It was the first such structure on the Japanese mainland at the time. It is also a dam of great historical value.
