北海道 美しい利尻島 Beautiful Rishiri Island, Hokkaido
利尻島は、稚内市の西方52㎞の海上に位置し、標高1,721メートルの火山「利尻山（りしりさん）」を主体とする火山島です。アイヌ語のリ・シﾘ（高い山）が、利尻の由来とのことです。
利尻山は美しい円錐形の山で、その風貌から「利尻富士」とも呼ばれており、特に夏季には多くの登山者が訪れます。利尻島では、礼文島と同様に利尻礼文サロベツ国立公園の一部として、美しい自然景観が保護されています。また、利尻島周辺の海で採れる「利尻昆布」は、風味豊かな高品質の昆布として有名です。
Rishiri Island is a volcanic island located 52 km west of Wakkanai City in the sea and is dominated by Mount Rishiri, a 1,721-meter volcano. The name “Rishiri” comes from the Ainu word “ri -shir,” which means high mountain. Mt. Rishiri is a beautiful cone-shaped mountain, also called “Rishiri Fuji” because of its appearance, and attracts many climbers, especially during the summer season. On Rishiri Island, as on Rebun Island, the beautiful natural scenery is protected as part of the Rishiri Rebun Sarobetsu National Park. Rishiri kelp, harvested from the seas around Rishiri Island, is renowned for its exceptional flavor and superior quality.
