You ain't got to hold the door open but you could at least push it open so I can get a hold of it or sneak in or cut out a few seconds of having to grab the door pull it all the way up back open.
I think a lot of it has to do with the acknowledging the person behind you some people just don't see anybody else in their life

I always wondered why I saw Asians not hold doors open for people. I saw a lady fully get smacked in the face by the door she thought someone held for her 😂 if I didn't hold the door for people, mother would be furious at me. Cultural differences are insane.
