高さ7メートル、重量20tの大型山車！秩父の山々をバックに下郷笠鉾が登場！威勢の良い「ホーリャイ」の掛け声！軽妙なテンポ・豪快な太鼓！白木造りが目にも鮮やか下郷傘鉾！
下郷笠鉾（したごうかさぼこ）

下郷笠鉾は、腰屋根四方唐破風造（こしやねしほうからはふづくり）、三層の花笠、波形のせき台、万燈の上に天道をおいたもので、中近笠鉾と同様の構造をしている。
秩父の山車6基の内で、もっとも大きく重量もある笠鉾です。文久年間、荒木和泉によって計画された屋形は後年建造。白木作りの屋形が特徴。

約300年前に始まった秩父夜祭は、京都祇園祭、飛騨高山祭とともに日本三大山車祭りの一つとして知られています。 傘鉾と呼ばれる2台の山車と、屋台と呼ばれる4台の山車があります。秩父夜祭は、秩父神社の一大祭です。 豪華な山車を曳いて、ちちぶの街を巡り、山車の中では歌舞伎が披露されます。 夜空には花火が打ち上げられ、多くの参拝客で賑わいます。
祭りの起源は、江戸時代中期、神社の境内に生糸の市が開かれたことに遡ります。冬の空に打ち上がる花火を背景に、山車の上で揺れる色鮮やかな提灯が祭りの魅力です。
秩父夜祭の山車と神楽は、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されています。

The float is entirely made of black lacquer, with metal fittings sunk everywhere, and decorated with colorful carvings such as demon boards, gegyo, and gable ornaments, giving it a palace-like appearance. The distinctive features of this float are the colored carvings, the gold leaf applied to the round carved dragons on the balustrades, as well as the full lacquer coating and the large number of metal fittings.

The Chichibu Night Festival, which began about 300 years ago, is known as one of the three major float festivals in Japan, along with the Kyoto Gion Festival and the Hida Takayama Festival. There are two floats called Kasaboko and four floats called Yatai. The Chichibu Night Festival is the biggest festival of Chichibu Shrine. The gorgeous floats are pulled through the town of Chichibu, and kabuki performances are held inside the floats. Fireworks are set off into the night sky, and the festival is bustling with worshippers.
The origins of the festival date back to the mid-Edo period, when a raw silk market was held within the shrine grounds. The charm of the festival is the colorful lanterns swaying on the floats against the backdrop of fireworks bursting into the winter sky.
The floats and Kagura of the Chichibu Night Festival are designated as Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan.
