北海道東部、知床半島に位置する羅臼町（らうすちょう）の様子です。
知床半島は世界自然遺産に指定されていて多くの観光客が訪れます。
漁業が大変盛んな町ですがロシアが実効支配している国後島が対岸にある為、国境の町でもあります。
「北の国から２００２遺言」の舞台にもなった町です。
