Kairakuen is located in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and is known as one of Japan’s three great gardens. It is especially famous for its plum blossoms, with about 100 varieties and 3,000 plum trees planted in the garden12. Every year from mid-February to late March, the “Mito Plum Blossom Festival” is held, attracting many tourists23.
Kairakuen also features many attractions such as Kobuntei, designed by Tokugawa Nariaki, bamboo groves, and Togyokusen1. Visiting during the plum blossom season offers truly beautiful scenery.
