It is located in Shinjo City, Yamagata Prefecture.
The castle was built in 1625 by Masamori Tozawa.
For 243 years, Shinjo Castle was the residence of the Tozawa clan and was the center of the Shinjo clan, but during the Boshin War, it was attacked by the forces of the Shonai clan, and much of the castle as well as the city area were burnt down.
The castle ruins are open to the public as Mogami Park.

This is a video of a 49-year-old bachelor who silently visited the castle by himself.
