滋賀県甲賀市の坂上田村麻呂を祀る、田村神社に参拝しました。
田村神社は近江国（滋賀県）と伊勢国（三重県）の国境にあり、古来には都より伊勢へと参宮する交通の要衝でした。 当社の言い伝えによると、「鈴鹿峠に悪鬼が出没して旅人を悩ましており、嵯峨天皇は坂上田村麻呂公に勅命を出してこれを平定させた」とあります。 それゆえに、交通の障害を取り除いて土地を安定させた坂上田村麻呂公の御遺徳を仰ぎ、弘仁3（812）年の正月、 嵯峨天皇は勅令を出して坂上田村麻呂公をこの土山の地に祀られることとなりました。
Tamura Shrine is located on the border between Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture) and Ise Province (Mie Prefecture), and in ancient times it was a key transportation point for pilgrimages from the capital to Ise. According to the legend of this shrine, “an evil spirit appeared at Suzuka Pass and harassed travelers, so Emperor Saga issued an imperial decree to Sakanoue no Tamuramaro to pacify it.” Therefore, in honor of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who removed the obstacles to transportation and stabilized the land, Emperor Saga issued an imperial decree in January of the third year of the Kōnin era (812) to have Sakanoue no Tamuramaro enshrined here in Tsuchiyama.
