Thank you for being here 🙂 In this video, I visited Uchiko-town in ehime prefecture, the 5th prefecture out of my travel through all the 47 prefectures in Japan 🇯🇵

After staying in Ozu City for several days, I headed to Uchiko Town, known for its beautifully preserved old townscape. I stayed at a guesthouse in the Yoka Gokoku district, which features many buildings from the Edo period that have been preserved in their original form. While enjoying local cuisine, I explored the town. Preserving a townscape is not a simple task; once an area is designated for preservation, homeowners can’t freely renovate their houses. Initially, many people opposed this idea, but city officials went door-to-door explaining its significance, gradually gaining support over time. During the Edo period, Uchiko belonged to the Ozu domain and greatly contributed to the finances of both the domain and the Uchiko area through its local wood wax industry. I learned about this history by visiting a museum housed in a former wealthy merchant’s residence from that era. (Next, I’ll share a video focusing on the moon-viewing event.)

  1. This community seems to have such a rich history. Imagine being born and raised in such a place. I originally came from very rural towns with populations under 1,000 people. Such small communities have such a wholesome lifestyle and each citizen has a closer relationship to everyone else. It's difficult to squeeze so much into just one hour of time. Even got to pet a cat. He scented you as part of his territory and then moved on. Thanks again for sharing this portion of your amazing journey and for narrating it in English. As always, have a safe journey.

  2. I love the guesthouse design, and omotenashi culture in Japan! Thank you for including us in your adventure. The food looked meccha oishi 😄 Awesome video brother ~ keep it up, YABAI!

  3. Thank you for sharing the history of the village 🗻 Can't believe there was a German restaurant, lol. Something Interesting! I love lemon beer Kanpai 🍻

  4. What a great tour. Thank You. And your knowledge about folklore is helpful. When I saw all the food I thought it was a serving for a group! Generous servings! It looks so delicious! I'd always heard that in Japan they must take off shoes when going into buildings, yet it seemed like inside the Museum the shoes were left on, I could hear shoes on the stairs? Maybe I'm wrong tho.
