Terrible storms continue to rage across Europe: Now Cyprus is affected

A powerful storm with thunder, rain and hail has hit the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus. Strong winds knocked down trees and heavy rain flooded roads across the island.
The storm led to power outages in 17 towns and suburbs of Limassol district, and in some areas it has not yet been restored. Similar difficulties were experienced in many villages and suburbs in Paphos district.
Fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis said 73 emergency calls were received during the storm. Most of them concerned issues such as fallen trees and rescuing people trapped in cars on flooded roads.
A large number of properties were reportedly damaged by flooding in the Paphos district.
Landslides occurred on the highway connecting Paphos and Limassol near the villages of Pedoulas and Kampos.
The mayor of Paphos expressed relief that the storm lasted only 50 minutes.
Otherwise, he said, the situation could have been as “tragic” as the recent floods in Spain.
