【一人旅山口編】ぶらり旅 第471回「山口県:吉香公園周辺散策」-岩国シロヘビの館,吉香神社,白山比咩神社,旧目加田家住宅- Iwakuni,Yamaguchi
ふらっと出かけた場所を紹介しようと思います。
2022年9月に山口県岩国市にある「吉香公園」に行きました。

・岩国シロヘビの館
岩国のシロヘビとは全身は白く光沢があり、目だけは赤いルビーのよう。
美しく神秘的な姿で人々を魅了するシロヘビは昔から山口県岩国市に集中して生息し、「神様の使い」として崇められてきました。
開運・金運のご利益があるとされ、大切に保護されています。
シロヘビの生態展示のほか、生態や歴史についてゲームや模型を使いながら、大人から子供まで楽しく学ぶことができます。
昭和47年（1972）に国の天然記念物と指定されています。
料金：高校生以上200円、小中学生100円
開館時間：9:00～17:00
休館日：無休
・吉香神社
「吉香神社」は旧岩国藩主吉川家の先祖を祀る三社を統合して、1884年 (明治17年) 旧居館跡に建立されました。
社殿は、吉川興経を祀る治功大明神として1728年 (享保13年) に造営されたものです。
建物は当初の形式をよく保持しており、岩国藩大工の高い技術力が窺えます。
本殿、拝殿、神門が同一時期の建築で揃っているものは大変貴重で、1988年 (昭和63年) に県の有形文化財に指定されています。
その後、2004年 (平成16年) 12月10日には国の重要文化財に指定されました。
・白山比咩神社
1559年の創建で、加賀国 (石川県) 白山神社の分霊を移し祭ったものと伝えられています。
現在の建物は、拝殿を除き、1898年 (明治31年) に完成したものです。
通称「白山神社」 (はくさんじんじゃ) と言われており、境内にはモミジや杉の大木があり雨や霧などに煙る姿は幽玄です。
また境内横より城山登山道が通じています。
・旧 目加田家住宅
目加田家は、天正年間に吉川元春に召し抱えられ、その後、吉川家が岩国に移封された際に藩主広家に従い、この地に居を構えた家系です。
旧目加田家住宅は、18世紀中頃と見られる中級武家屋敷の数少ない遺構として、国の重要文化財に指定されています。
錦川が氾濫し横山地区が冠水することを想定してか、武家屋敷としては珍しく二階が造られていますが、表通り側（玄関側）には二階窓がなく、上位身分の
武士も通る路を上から見下ろすことがないように配慮されているなどの特徴もあります。
・吉香公園
江戸時代に岩国を治めた吉川家の居館や家臣の屋敷跡地に造られた大公園。
日本の歴史公園100選に選ばれました｡中央の大噴水の放水時は、水が大きくアーチ状を連ねて虹をかけることも。
公園内は芝生や木陰、ベンチで休憩・昼食などくつろげ、市民の憩いの場となっています。
随所に作られた花壇で、四季折り折りの花が咲き乱れ、秋は銀杏の大木が黄金色に染まります。
吉川氏の居館跡（吉香神社境内）も公園化されており岩国市の登録有形文化財の錦雲閣、岩国出身の旧帝國軍音楽隊長であり作曲家の田中穂積像と、穂積が作曲した名曲「美しき天然」の歌碑などがあります。

・Iwakuni White Snake Museum
Iwakuni white snakes are shiny white all over, with only their eyes red like rubies.
White snakes, which fascinate people with their beautiful and mysterious appearance, have been concentrated in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture since ancient times and have been worshiped as “messengers of God.”
They are said to bring good luck and fortune, and are carefully protected.
In addition to exhibits on the ecology of white snakes, adults and children can enjoy learning about their ecology and history using games and models.
They were designated as a national natural monument in 1972.
Admission: 200 yen for high school students and above, 100 yen for elementary and junior high school students
Opening hours: 9:00-17:00
Closed: Open everyday
・Kikko Shrine
Kikko Shrine was built in 1884 (Meiji 17) on the site of the former residence of the Kikkawa family, the former feudal lords of Iwakuni, by integrating three shrines that enshrined the ancestors of the family.
The shrine building was built in 1728 (Kyoho 13) as Jikyo Daimyojin, which enshrines Kikko Okitsune.
The building has well retained its original form, demonstrating the high level of skill of the Iwakuni carpenters.
The main hall, worship hall, and shrine gate, all built at the same time, are extremely rare, and were designated as tangible cultural properties of the prefecture in 1988 (Showa 63).
Then, on December 10, 2004 (Heisei 16), it was designated as an important cultural property of the country.
・Hakusan Hime Shrine
Founded in 1559, it is said to have been the shrine where a branch of the Hakusan Shrine in Kaga Province (Ishikawa Prefecture) was transferred and enshrined.
The current building, excluding the worship hall, was completed in 1898 (Meiji 31).
It is commonly known as Hakusan Shrine, and the grounds are filled with large maple and cedar trees, creating a mysterious appearance when shrouded in rain or fog.
The mountain trail to Shiroyama also runs from the side of the grounds.
