様似町の海岸と奇岩 Coast and strangely shaped rock in Samani-cho
北海道様似町の海岸線の奇岩やエンルム岬は約1,700万年前、地盤が強い力で押されていくつかの割れ目ができ、そこに地下からのマグマが上がってきて、冷えて固まったものである。周りの柔らかい地面は波や風で少しずつ削られてきたがマグマが冷えて固まった岩は非常に硬い為、現在でも残っている。様似町の地域は江戸時代にすでに住民の為の執務を行う会所が置かれるなど、早くから拓けていた土地であるが、それは様似川河口のエンルム岬が天然の港として絶好の地形になっていたからある。様似町の成り立ちは、こうした壮大な地球の営みが深く関係している。
The strange rocks and Cape Enrumu off the coast of Samani Town in Hokkaido were formed approximately 17 million years ago when a strong force pushed the ground, creating several cracks through which magma rose from underground and cooled and solidified. The area around Samani Town was developed early in Hokkaido, so much so that it was the location of government offices there even during the age of the samurai. This is because Cape Enrumu had an ideal topography for a natural harbor. The formation of Samani Town is deeply connected to these magnificent activities of the Earth.
