Zao Dam is located in Hino Town, Gamo District. 蔵王ダム、滋賀県蒲生郡日野町
The dam was constructed to secure agricultural water supply along the Hino River. Its foundation ceremony was held in January 1990, and construction of the main structure began soon after. It was completed in 1994, making it the fifth-largest dam in Shiga Prefecture. This rockfill dam, built with stacked rocks and earth, has a height of 56 meters and an effective water storage capacity of 4.6 million tons.
Due to its remote mountain location, there is little light pollution, making it an excellent spot for stargazing and astrophotography.

滋賀県 蔵王ダム
蔵王ダムは日野川沿岸の農業用水確保のため１９９０年年１月に定礎式が行われて本体の工事が開始され、１９９４年に滋賀県で５番目に大きいダムとして完成しました。このダムは岩石や土砂を積み上げて建設したロックフィルダム、提体の高さは５６m、有効貯水量は４６０万ｔです。山奥にあるため光害が少なく綺麗な星空が楽しめるため天体観測、星空撮影のスポットになっています。
