【一人旅山口編】ぶらり旅 第463回「山口県:亀山八幡宮＆赤間神宮」-アクセス,駐車場,唐戸市場,カモンワーフ,下関,神社,関門海峡- JAPAN,Yamaguchi,travel
ふらっと出かけた場所を紹介しようと思います。
2022年9月に山口県下関市にある「亀山八幡宮＆赤間神宮」に行きました。
一人旅山口編 次回は「海響館」です。
・亀山八幡宮
貞観元年の創建と伝わる古社で、「関の氏神」として市民に親しまれています。
境内には林芙美子文学碑、世界最大のふくの銅像、亀山砲台跡など多くの史跡があります。
『防長社寺由来』によれば、859年、行教が宇佐から石清水へ八幡神を勧請する途中、当時は島だった亀山に碇泊した。
そのとき、「この山は清浄な地であるので、しばらく祀ってから先へ進んでほしい」と神託があったため、亀山に行宮が設けられた。
この行宮が当社の起源であるという。
関門海峡鎮護の神社として歴代領主の大内氏・毛利氏らの崇敬を受け、下関の総鎮守、長門国三宮とされた。
境内には、山陽道の終点を示す碑が建てられている。
・赤間神宮
壇ノ浦の合戦に敗れ、わずか8歳という幼さで入水された安徳天皇を祀る「赤間神宮」。
竜宮城をイメージして建立された朱色の水天門が、堂々と参拝客を迎えてくれます。
水天門をくぐると境内には、安徳天皇阿弥陀寺御陵や貴重な資料を展示した宝物殿などがあります。
毎年5月3日には、上臈参拝で有名な先帝祭のメイン会場となります。
また、赤間神宮の前身「阿弥陀寺」は、小泉八雲の怪談で有名な「耳なし芳一」の舞台になったお寺です。
芳一堂には琵琶を弾く芳一の像が立ち、隣には平家一門の墓が並びます。
平清盛の妻、二位尼は安徳天皇を抱えて入水する際に「海の中にも都はございます」と歌を詠んだといわれています。

I would like to introduce some places I visited on a whim.
In September 2022, I went to “Kameyama Hachiman Shrine & Akama Shrine” in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
・Kameyama Hachiman Shrine
An ancient shrine said to have been founded in the first year of the Jogan era, it is loved by locals as the “guardian deity of Seki.”
The grounds contain many historical sites, including the Hayashi Fumiko Literary Monument, the world’s largest bronze statue of Fuku, and the remains of the Kameyama Battery.
According to the “Origins of Bocho Shrines and Temples,” in 859, Gy?ky? anchored off Kameyama, which was an island at the time, on his way from Usa to Iwashimizu to enshrine Hachiman.
At that time, he received a divine oracle saying, “This mountain is a pure land, so please worship for a while before moving on,” so a temporary shrine was established on Kameyama.
This temporary shrine is said to be the origin of our company.
As a shrine that protects the Kanmon Straits, it was revered by successive feudal lords such as the Ouchi and Mori clans, and was the general guardian of Shimonoseki and the third shrine of Nagato Province.
A monument marking the end of the Sanyo Road has been erected within the shrine grounds.
・Akama Shrine
Akama Shrine enshrines Emperor Antoku, who was defeated in the Battle of Dannoura and drowned at the young age of eight.
The vermilion Suitenmon Gate, built in the image of Ryugu-jo Castle, welcomes visitors with a dignified look.
After passing through the Suitenmon Gate, the grounds include the tomb of Emperor Antoku at Amida-ji Temple and the Treasure Hall, which displays valuable materials.
Every year on May 3rd, the shrine is the main venue for the Sentei Festival, which is famous for its worship by women of high rank.
In addition, Amida-ji Temple, the predecessor of Akama Shrine, is the setting for Lafcadio Hearn’s famous ghost story “Mimi-nashi Hoichi.”
At Hoichido, there is a statue of Hoichi playing the biwa, and next to it are the graves of the Heike clan.
It is said that Taira no Kiyomori’s wife, Nii-no-ama, composed a poem saying, “There is a capital even in the sea” when she drowned holding Emperor Antoku.
