Toyama | UNAKAZU ★★Unagi Restaurant★★富山県富山市うな一
UNAKAZU is an unagi (eel) specialty restaurant. Eel is eaten usually in the summer months as it is purported to increase one’s stamina, especially when the sun is blazing down on you. However, unagi connoisseurs usually eat eel late August to October, because those are the months when eels store up more fat in preparation for hibernation. But you do you! UNAKAZU offers the famous Hitsumabushi, which originated in Nagoya. If you don’t know, Hitsumabushi is eel enjoyed 3 ways: (1) eat the unagi and rice (2) eat the unagi and rice with toppings (3) add in tea (4) repeat your favorite combination. This time, however, I opted for the Unaju (eel in rice box). There is also the smaller Unadon (eel on rice). For both Unaju and Unadon, you can order extra rice, order nakamushi (more eel beneath the rice), and/or order kimo (eel organs). At night, this becomes a drinking place, and there are additional izakaya tapas plates like horse sashimi and more. This place is packed particularly during unagi eating season (summer & autumn). Enjoy! @TastyWaterOM @TravelWhiskers

夏といえばウナギだね
Unagi is quite popular overseas in Japanese restaurants , but surprisingly harder to find in Japan.
