Iwami Kagura – Hachiman- in Kanagi, Hamada City Shimane
This is Hachiman, one of the Iwami Kagura performances.
It is performed by the Oibara Kagura troupe from Kanagi-cho, Hamada City.
-About Hachiman-
The 15th Emperor Ojin (Yahatamaro), who is enshrined at Usa Hachiman Shrine in Buzen Province, Kyushu, hears that The Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, who came to Japan from a foreign country, is harming people one after another, and exterminates him with The Bow of the Divine and The Arrows of the Fortune.
Justice (god) versus evil (demon). This is a typical development of Iwami Kagura.
Hachimangu shrines dedicated to Emperor Ojin, who is praised as a god of valor, are widely distributed throughout the country, with Usa Hachimangu Shrine as the head shrine, and are known as the most numerous shrines in Japan.
