This is rocky reef on the east coast of Cape Muroto. Cape Muroto is a cape facing the Pacific Ocean in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, at the southeastern tip of Shikoku, Japan.

And Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark. Muroto Geopark is a geopark that covers the entire area of ​​Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, and was certified as a global geopark in 2011.
Cape Muroto is said to have been deposited on the deep sea floor about 16 million years ago and was uplifted by huge earthquakes that occur every 100 to 150 years.
It is said that the Philippine Sea Plate is subducting under the Eurasian Plate at the Nankai Trough, about 140 km from Cape Muroto, and is rising at a rate of 2 m per 1000 years.
This place was once under the sea, but was turned into land by the Hoei Earthquake of 1707, the Ansei Nankai Earthquake that occurred on December 24, 1854, and the Showa Nankai Earthquake that occurred on December 21, 1946.
On the other hand, the offshore area where the Kuroshio Current flows is an area where typhoons are likely to occur, and Cape Muroto is known for its strong winds.
The Muroto Typhoon of 1934 and the second Muroto Typhoon of 1961 made landfall in this area and have left their mark.
During the second Typhoon Muroto, the weather observatory’s anemometer was damaged, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed was only recorded as “84.5 m/s or more”. What was the actual wind speed?
While there have been disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes, the wisdom and ingenuity of the people of Muroto, who have coexisted with nature, which also brings blessings, is amazing.

    室戸ジオパークは、高知県室戸市全域をエリアとするジオパークで、2011年に世界ジオパークに認定されました。
    室戸岬は、およそ1600万年前に深海底で堆積したものが100-150年周期で起こる巨大地震で隆起したそうです。
    室戸岬から約 140 km離れた南海トラフでフィリピン海プレートがユーラシアプレートの下に沈み込むため 1000 年あたり2 m の速度で隆起しているそうです。
    ここは、かつて海底だった場所が1707年の宝永地震、1854年12月24日に発生した安政南海地震や1946年12月21日に発生した昭和南海地震により陸化したそうです。

    一方で、黒潮が流れる沖合は台風が発生しやすい地域でもあり、室戸岬は強風で知られています。
    1934年（昭和9年）の室戸台風と1961年（昭和36年）の第2室戸台風は、この付近に上陸し、その名を残しています。
    第2室戸台風の際、気象台の風速計が破損し、最大瞬間風速は「84.5m/s以上」としか記録されなかったそうです。実際にはどのくらいの風速だったのでしょう？

    台風・地震などの災害もある一方で、恵みももたらしてくれる「自然」と共生してきた室戸の方々の知恵や工夫は素晴らしいと感じます。ご視聴ありがとうございました。🥷🇯🇵

    本当に綺麗です。室戸岬は有名ですが、この様に空からの様子は、テレビでも見たことなく、とても見入りました。ブルーの海と岩場そして道路も観え、素晴らしい景観です。岩場には白い波も見えて、素敵でした。
