摩周湖は年間を通して比較的水温が低く、夏の暖かい気温や日差しによって湖面の空気が温められると上昇気流が発生しやすくなります。そのため、辺り一面が霧に覆われて「霧の摩周湖」となります。摩周湖上に「雲海」として霧がたまることは希少な現象です。
第３展望台では、季節と条件が合えば屈斜路カルデラとダブル雲海を見ることができます。
さらに運がよければ、摩周湖に流れ込む幻の滝霧が見られるかもしれません。(弟子屈町 弟子屈なびHPより引用)
The water temperature of Lake Mashu is relatively low throughout the year, and rising air currents tend to occur when the air on the surface of the lake is warmed by the warm summer temperatures and sunlight. As a result, the whole area is covered with fog and becomes “foggy Lake Mashu”. It is a rare phenomenon that fog accumulates over Lake Mashu as a “sea of clouds”.
From the third observatory, if the season and conditions are right, you can see the Kussharo caldera and the double sea of clouds.
