What’s it like to fly on Philippine Airlines in Business Class aboard an Airbus A330? Check out this 4K Trip Report & Flight Review to see if your next Philippine Airlines flight might also be a complete dumpster fire!

🚨 Note, the correct score is 53/100, the scoring card incorrectly displays 10/20 for Food & Fees score, which was meant to be 08/20. Also, as of June 2023, PR is no longer using Terminal 2 for International Flights.

This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that’s the way I like it!

  1. 🚨 Reply from Philippine Airways 🚨

Somewhere in the comments below you will find a comment that was posted on the video quite quickly after it was published from the PAL Youtube Channel. Since then, today (26/07) I also received an email from a 'Customer Relations Officer' from a generic PAL email address which very similarly to the comment they left on the video, appologized for each problem during the flight item by item, but it was all in a very, generic corporate format. They also asked for my specific booking details and offered me compensation in the amount of… wait for it… 2,000 Mabuhay Miles for the poor experience. While I do give them credit for reaching out in any capacity (it's more than most airlines do…), the 2,000 miles offer is comical. This is the text of my reply:

"Thank you very much for the email. I am not seeking any sort of compensation for my experience, so the 2,000 miles will not be necessary. Might I suggest though, that your team reevaluate your compensation and service recovery metrics as 2,000 Mabuhay Miles for such a poor experience is almost insulting. I assure you, this is not a ploy for a higher offer, even if you offered 1,000,000 Miles, as I said I am not seeking anything so I would not accept, I am just suggesting for future guests who may deserve such compensation. Thank you."

  2. It's embarrassing to admit but yes, a Phil. Airlines experience is a hit or miss.

Filipinos should stop being compliant and amiable when they are blatantly being shortchanged.

On a brighter side, at least you arrive alive to your destination. Their safety record is impeccable.

  3. I’m not a fan of PAL, and their flight attendants, and this video is further proof why. Last time I flew them was more than a decade ago. Filipino service, in general, is hit or miss. It’s just not consistent, despite their pride for being hospitable.

On an LAX-MNL flight, we had just finished breakfast and FAs had collected all the trays. Well, I had a muffin that I was trying to finish but also didnt want to be stuck holding it as they were making their final rounds to collect trash, so I decided to throw it away when I saw the FA come through the aisle once more.

I made a gesture to hand it over to her. But, like many Filipina FAs, she had one of those “disgusted with collecting and holding trash” attitude, so when she tried to grab my muffin, which I tried to give with its wrapper, she failed to get a proper grip on it. It fell out of the wrapper and onto the floor with some crumbs. To which her response was of annoyance and for me to pick it up for her. Rather than try to pick it up herself and clean up the mess, she pretended to act like she was going to do it, but instead just waited for me to do it for her. She was already holding the wrapper so I had nothing to grab it with, I had to pick it up along with the crumbs and got my hands a little oily. She showed absolutely no sincerity in trying to help out.

    SO UNPROFESSIONAL!

I was pretty annoyed with her lack of service. It was near the end of the flight, so we landed shortly after that meal service. I went to the flight pursor and made a complaint.

Filipinos (not all but many) are good talkers, but nothin’ doin’!

Yeah I heard they’re getting a bunch of A350s… Pfffff!!!

They first need to take care of their level of professionalism. No amount of new planes or the latest technology will make you a premier airline. You have to start from within…

They have more Filipino pride than they need.

Btw, those meals looked disgusting! Business class too. And your seat was another issue. That’s exactly what I mean, they dont bother to take care of those litte details. Filipino service is inconsistent in so many places.

  4. What great timing, I was debating a trip to the Philippines on PR due to their ridiculously low prices on J, after seeing this I’m going to Singapore instead. SIA is a lot more expensive but their hard and soft products are both top notch

  5. Philippines airline does not deserve to be 4 star. it is a 3 star at best. If it wasn't for their direct flight to Manila from Ny, i would never use them. Not one aspect of flying thim is 4 star

  6. It's my first time watching your content and I find really clear and comprehensive si nce there are very precise yardsticks that you use in reviewing airlines. I think theyre helpful in setting expectations.

    Looking forward for more.

  7. I'm a airline Captain for a US carrier who has flown years of international. i've ran into numeroous former PAL pilots who quit because it was not a great place to work. My take if the employees are leaving thats not a good sign. They mentioned they thought it was going under.

  8. Good review and honest insights. If at all possible, I will not fly international with PAL. I can live with the old aircraft but not the crew … well most of their crew on their Saudi to Manila flights.

  9. They should have youtubers that critique the critiquers! Then we would see the crocodile tears.

  10. I flew on a Philippines airlines Jakarta-Manila flight last month to discover a male passenger suddenly jump into the toilet when the plane was about to land. He was still inside the toilet when the plane landed. That could happen because I noticed that the FA sitting near the toilet have close his eyes when the plane was about to land
He probably didnt notice when the passenger went into the toilet. The FA must be tired.I also noticed that the FA had to serve a round trip Manila-Jakarta flight.Make sense if he was tired. My other experience on that flight, after the plane taxi and in a complete stop I rush into the toilet. But it shocked me when the flush wasnt working. Finally for a night flight the airline did not prepare blankets in the seats. Passengers must request for blanket. The quality of the blanket was so poor and its very thin. Doesnt do much good to keep me warm amidst the cold night flight
I hope Phillipinnes airlines could improved its sevices

  11. I'm Pinoy but I didn't try pal airlines here in Dubai ,,,I usually try other airline first and soon I will compare Thier servises to pal…..

  12. To the Vlogger – u should write in a Complaint Report for your specific Flight , let the Pursor get called in for investigation , and let the maintenance side of the Airlines deal with the faulty seats appropriately.

Always leave behind a Remarks for those Airlines Services that Under-Exceed their publicities 😊

  13. Philippine Airlines to be honest is not as bad as what you think. I'd give them like a 78/100.

  14. For another review, positive this time, check out the video of Flight Formula

  15. this is surprisingly a bad review for much better airline. The reviewer needs to get a life and be better like Josh Cahill and the other reviewer!.

  16. Oh my god I am so done with PAL! I fly every year to the Philippines (LAX-MNL) and every time, the experience has been awful! especially, with the customer in Manila check in process, where it takes over 2hrs in most cases to check in and check baggage! Then their seats are very narrow and very uncomfortable (17") width for a 15 hr flight!

  17. 8:25 It's not quite the same as Japanese ground crews bowing and waving as you leave, but at least the jet bridge gave you a nice big smile.

  18. Used to fly PAL on a frequent basis from 2010-18, stopped just before their rebranding and when they recieved the 4 star airline award so never really got to experience the new PAL, Jesus Christ never knew it failed that horribly

  19. Wow, that food was abominable! As much as I want to support Philippines flag carriers this is making me think twice especially now that there are other airlines that flies directly from SFO to Manila and vice-versa. Take note, PAL, we worked very hard for every penny we earned and indulging on business class aren’t cheap. I’m going to have to second your motion, sir. Cut the crap #PAL #philippinesairlines

  20. Unfortunately, my fello Filipinos still think cheap and third world. I deal with my partners in Manila and their whole approach is cheap therefore leading to bad or no positive
    results.

  21. DO NOT USE THIS AIRLINE! If you buy a refundable ticket such as Business Class or Premium Ecconomy they will stall and not pay your refund until you eventually give up. They are a total scam.

  22. Its time for philippine airlines to hire different nationality. Doesnt have to be to filipino. Specially when you want to become a 5 star airline. Have to be consistent with the product you offer. Remember your a flag carrier. You represent the country as a whole

  23. Currently there are no direct flights to Europe from the Philippines since European Airlines ceased flying to Manila the last European carrier KLM ceased flying direct to Amsterdam in 2012. I used to fly with Lufthansa during my past travels to Europe until they ceased in 2008 and I used to be greeted by the cabin crew with "Gruß Gott" "Herzliche Willkommen am Bord" as I speak German and are known for their punctuality and efficiency. Recently received the news that Lufthansa is making a comeback to the Philippines and soon launching their non stop direct flights to Manila from either Frankfurt or Munich that's great news as I'm a Schengen Visa holder.
