In this video we’re talking about Special Education in Africa. We’ve heard from planning their move to Ghana that finding schools focused on teaching students with disabilities or specifically an Autism school in Africa has been hard. It made us wonder if it’s true that children with disabilities denied education is just part of African living. We went searching for special needs schools in Ghana and decided to make that our focus to increase autism awareness in Africa.

Join us as we speak with an activist here in Tema, Ghana on Special Education in Africa, specifically in and around the Ghana capital city and what you can do to help the people teaching students with disabilities in Africa.

  1. I actually saw Tony's twin in Osu last week. So embarrassing the way I approached him like a groupie. LOL

  2. Baba Tony and Mama Ayo
I hope you two are good?
Education is for all whether they are normal, blind and disabled.
Africans shouldn’t be prejudice even if the child is disabled, deaf or blind because they deserve an education.
In my opinion also that education should be free for all, this is what our founding father, leader and hero Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah made it so essential.

  3. You two guys look fabulous. Healthy and glowing. Can you have a program on you health procedures or lack of health procedures.

  4. Guys great program when I get to Ghana I will definitely try to stop by and get the information and see what I can do for this lady she's doing a wonderful job you two are doing a great job thank you

  5. yes in USA and IEP/504 is wonderful, some schools in USA dont have the budget for 100% payment but no help at all is disheartening. Im TESOL Certified and bilingual. was thinking about adding Dyslexia training but a little tired, lol. I believe i gave them a school in South Africa for special education but i guess Native Borne made their family decision. TFS!

  6. You guys are Amazing with the kind help you are offering. My entire family would come to Ghana ending of the year God willing. From Maryland USA

  7. They can make play though with four , salt and oil. Also , they can make corn four and water very therapeutic.
I will see you Ayo when I move sooner by God's grace. Keep up the good work. 🙏🙏💝💝💝

  8. Tony! That shirt though! If you were close I’d rip it right off you 🤣 Nice video y’all on a topic that often gets overlooked. Thanks for raising awareness 👌🏾👏🏾👍🏾

  9. This is so awesome! I'm saving this video so I can come back to it when I get back to the States (currently in Europe, but will one day spend some time in Africa long term).

  10. Stop and think back for a moment, why in almost all over the continent of Afrika it’s so? Because the women did not use to produce/bore sick children! Until WHO, or the western world came to Afrika! The culture is still trying to figure out how and not to accept that conditions for sickness or made peace with it. Afrikans/Bantus children are strong in bodies and minds then westerners regardless of what they are doing.

  11. I am an educator in the USA it’s shocking that there are no special services for students with disabilities 😢

  12. I hope to move or to Africa and do the same. I also follow your other sped channel and wondered why you stopped 🙂

  13. Do they need the machine to make lamination? What type of velcro do they need?

  14. Oh wow! My school mate from Archbishop Porter Girls Secondary School….well done sis👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾God bless you ❤️

  15. @expatlife are you a BCBA? You should consider providing consultancy services and training to schools to help them develop Special Education programmes.

  16. I've just come across your channel and I've been binge watching your vlogs. This is my favourite one. I was born in Ghana I now live in the UK. I have 2 kids both om the spectrum one who is non verbal the other has been tested as highly gifted. It saddens me deeply that as a society we fail the very people who need us the most. It's not just in Ghana ors everywhere. Here in my area there is only 1 special needs school and over 20 ordinary schools! I lived in Tema for a year and went to Datus for a year, Team is the bomb I agree.

  17. Actually, there are more than 5 autism schools within Accra alone that I have been to. I feel like the “special Ed” in Ghana is majorly focused on autistic and other physically differently abled children. Not much attention is given to children with mental issues, learning difficulties etc. and the attention is only given to kids between 2-16yrs.

Meaning, if you have a kid who is beyond this ages, it’s difficult to get the help they need. And it’s even worse if they have learning difficulties (dyslexic , dyscalculia etc) .

I’m in this dilemma with my ward! It breaks my heart that I am not able to get the help she needs. I only pray for God to help my family to send my ward to the US/Canada.

    I am frustrated.
