The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is the older of the two Corgi dog breeds. The Cardigan is distinguished by their long tail — like the sleeves of a cardigan sweater. The Cardigan can be less sociable and more territorial than the Pembroke.

In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Cardigan Welsh Corgis that you might not know.
A Quick Overview:
Group: Herding Dogs
Weight: 25 to 38 pounds
Height: 10 inches to 1 foot tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12 to 15 years
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is descended from the same family of dogs that produced the Dachshund and the Basset Hound. The ancestors of modern-day Cardis are believed to have been brought to Wales more than 3,000 years ago by Celtic tribes who migrated to Wales from central Europe. This early dog was a transitional form between the Teckel and the Spitz families. Some believe that when the Vikings invaded Wales, the Spitz-type dogs they brought with them were crossed with the original Corgi to produce the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
The Cardigan doesn’t spend much time herding cattle these days, although he still has the instinct for it. He is a family companion and show dog with an adaptable personality and responsible nature. You will often find the Cardigan living with horse owners, who appreciate his assistance in loading their horses into trailers.
The Cardigan can be less sociable and more territorial than the Pembroke. True to his herding dog heritage, the Cardi is an alert watchdog and may be reserved toward strangers. Expect him to bark a warning at the sight, scent, or sound of anything unusual. Like every dog, the Cardigan needs early socialization — exposure to many different people, sights, sounds, and experiences — ideally before he is four months old. Socialization helps to ensure that your Cardigan puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog.

How reserved is your Cardi toward strangers?
Do they make an alert watchdog?
Let us know in the comments!
I love corgi that have tails
Actually black and white isnt breed standard. It may be predominantly black and white but they will also have some brindle in them, although it may be just one small patch.
We had a brindle Cardigan female named Sadie she was a great dog 👍
Mine got tail! Hahahaha shes sweet but teething now is hard. Got bruises all over my hands hahha
My cardi is definitely not reserved around strangers. He's the most insensitive creature this earth has ever seen – he has no shame, no guilt, and no remorse. He will jump all over strangers if they pay him even the slightest bit of attention, and will act like we, his family of 5 years, don't even exist.
Mine is part chihuahua so his ears can move in all directions and he has a widow point. I've owned dogs for about 40 years and this guy is the smartest and most beautiful dog I've ever owned
전 한국여성입니다 지금 현제 웰시코기 펨브룩크를 키우고잇어요 무척 귀여워요ㅎ 전 카디건웰시코기도 귀엽고멋지더라구요 역시 코기들은 매력이 많죠^♡^~
this dudes voice is nauseating hahaha
Children…cattle…same thing.
Quê lindo, igualzinha a minha Belinha.
I loved my Sammy. Got him when he was a year and a half. Very strong willed doog. Would get into the trash if you didn't put it in a big outdoor container. Great dog though. Oh yeah, he hearded kids. Also swam like a torpedo. He had bad hip cause of injury due to my fence not being tight enough. But was otherwise sturdy for 12 great years.
My mum has a Cardigan male. He is the cuddliest little bean around everyone but also very very athletic and smart. they look so funny but are powerhouses 🙂
Why the fuck are you talking like that
I grew up with a cardigan. He hated because I always teased him lol. Now I have a different one and she’s almost the polar opposite of what a cardigan should be. She’s slow, lazy, loves strangers and cats but hates dogs. But she’s just such a sweet little thing and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We rescued what we were told was a Corgi mixed with Australian Shepard. While in the pet food store, an employee told us she had never seen a Cardigan before. I said”What?” After some research we think she is a cardigan.
I have one

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi, is one of my favorite dog breeds. But i have to wonder is there a video about the Lancashire Heeler, breed on this channel" if not then they really should make one.
Our cardigan, Winston is the best dog I have ever had had. He is amazing with the kids. One of our friends has an autistic son. Winston will not leave that boys side whenever they visit. He saved us the other day when their little boy tried to run off to the fields to the north. Winston was there trying to herd the boy back.
I remember growing up in the 70's with my Cardigan named Wally. One morning he escaped and followed my scent-trail to my elementary school, found a way in, found my classroom, and then ran up to my desk like he was so proud, lol. The nun had me put him outside and he waited by the door until lunchtime and I ran him home.
My cardigan corgi: I will fucking bite your pants so they get holes because I wanna play
This commentator has a very weird voice & many mispronunciations!
