The Origianal Cane Corso is a dog with a rich history and somewhat dim future. Jimmy Monugian Jr is not one who believes that dark prognosis. Jimmy and his mentor Mike Sottile Jr. are fighting to bring the true history and true genetics of a legendary dog, the Italian Mastiff.

Italian Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Cane Corso, and Cane De Presa are names given to the farm dogs of Italy. These large mastiff dogs trace their history back to ancient Rome. These dogs were an all around utility dog in Italy. They were used as farm dogs, hunting dogs, and guard dogs. Before the kennel clubs this breed went by various names, Cane Corso, Cane De Presa, and Neapolitan Mastiff.

  1. I got a question ❓. I have a male and a female. My female is always trying to fight with the male. What can I do to stop her behavior..

  2. Your dogs ressemble a lot the old Bandog From the Romans. You know, those war and coliseum dogs… They were huge, heavy, fearce, dominant, agressive, vigilant and loyal dogs.

If I was to re create the original Roman Bandog that evolved into the old Italian mastiff and then gave birth to the Napolitan Mastiff and Cane Corso I would absolutely use one of your dogs.
It would have to be a supersized dark Bandog with prey dog content and Mastiff Content but both very large. It would be a very arduous task finding original working lines of certain breeds like Presa Canario, Cane corso, Cane de Presa, Neopolitan Mastiff, Great Dane (for size) and maybe annother fearce Mastiff like Boerboel, Bullmastiff and/or Dogo de Bordeaux.

Canis Pugnax (name of that roman war dog ancester to modern italian mastiffs) is the one breed I would absolutely love to see reestablished. Great work, And if you happen to find someone already in that path, please help him/her. I'm still dreaming, but maybe one day I will finally get to that adventure.

BTW, Epilepsy is likely comming down from Boxers

  3. This guy has mo clue what hes talking about. The cross breed or outcross program happened due to only 20 animals being left in existence. He is breeding to the original neapolitan mastiff standard. Which is a good thing. But cane corso was the smaller type of the dogs. There are many many regional strains. Neo and corso are 2 types of the same breed.

There are neo enthusiasts trying to bring bsck that neo. And other enthusiasts teying to breed the corso type. And then american breeders breeding xl types that fall anywhere in between the 2 and even larger.

Corso are 110 pound. Original neo like 130 140.

  4. I like the original look of italian mastiff. I do not like cropin ears and tales. If it aint broken don’t fuck with it.

  5. Best description I've heard regarding their temperament (mine, included!) is that they are "switched on". 🎯

  6. Not to be disrespectful but were Mike’s dogs traditional or American line? Not to start any drama but I’ve heard to the contrary,I have my first and have been looking online for all I can find,so now guys are calling them nothing but band dogs. Sorry I’m so wordy would love a reply

  7. Just imagine the understanding of breeding a dog to breeding with humans? Why not right?

  8. Most cane we see in France, from breeders, look like yours…
My son has one, from a shelter, obviously traumatized from previous life. Abandoned twice. He is 11 now and my protector. He looks cool and aloof but he notices everything, and can change in a fraction of a second. So, I am on alert as soon as there is someone around. Fortunately I read him very well and so far managed to defuse him before action. I know he would give his last breath for me…
Now… obedience… you have to know they are extremely intelligent dogs, they will always try to do what they want. Very discreetly, very cleverly… as a french I am tempted to say, very italian way… so I never let him completely off the hook and this is how I gained his respect. Does he love me? To some extent… but my son is God in his world. Although he talks to me not to my son… talks even when I do not want to listen, he comes and tells me what is bothering him… it feels like having someone around not a dog.
I have my dogs, Rott (love them) and Beauceron, but this Cane is very special. Companion and protector.

  9. I am just wondering when you duck ears and crop the tales of your dogs are they in pain when you do that to them?

  10. Please keep your dogs out of the evil wicked akc. They have a very bad reputation. Dark side. Do research. ✝️💯🆓✝️💯🆓✝️💯🆓🐶🐾🐕

  11. I live in Glendale California. They have an app called Nextdoor. They have a Cona Corso that they are going to kill tonight. He’s a year old and he’s beautiful. Please save him.

  12. I rescued a starving young dog that lingered near my fenced yard for about two weeks now this was January in Northwest Indiana and the temperatures were about to drop drastically i have a male German Shepherd but i brought him in my house so he wouldn't die. To make a long story short he survived i didn't know what breed of dog he was until i showed pictures of him to knowledgeable trainers and breeders who told me he was a Cane Corso but until i saw this video I wondered why he looked so different than the more Boxer looking Cane Corsos
Yours look indentical to my rescue who i established to be a year and four months – definitely a Traditional Cane Corso
