Steve Cox has been interested in Neapolitan Mastiffs for the past 20 years and has 30-35 dogs at his show kennels in Norfolk. He shows competitively both here and abroad. The breed has been around for thousands of years going back to when it was a fighting dog in ancient Rome although it is now more of a loving gentle giant. Ironically, for such a big, heavy dog, it actually has a lot in common with big cats.

I belong to the giant dog rescue league of Florida. I have fostered many dogs over 125lbs . There was a 4 year old pure breed Neo at a kill shelter for 14 weeks that nobody could get near because he had been so abused, & mistreated, he trusted no one. Well, I took him on, took weeks to get him to stop biting me and at times I didn't think I was going to get him to straighten up, but he finely got to a point he knew this was a safe place to be, plus he got use to me feeding him, so he doesn't bit me anymore. When I got him, he was 109 pounds and was just skin & bones because he was on the streets for months with no proper food at all. After 4 weeks of me giving him 8 cups of dry kibble & raw chicken or beef he got up to 120 pounds and at 4 months of him here he was at 150 pounds, but looking a little too fat, so I cut his food back to 4 cups a day as I know the Neo's have hip & shoulder issues after 6 years old if you don't keep their weight down when there young. He was still to heavy at 150 as he was showing signs of hip displaceha already, so I cut him back to 3 cups a day as I would like to see him at 145 pounds max for his frame size. My long time big dog vet agreed. He now is fine with me, but with anybody he doesn't know, he still does not trust and can be flat out a big problem with strangers or other dogs as he is a big boy ! He is a good dog for the right family that can take on a dog with a hard passsed, not an easy thing to fine but he is up for adoption now. Our rescue have over 40 big dogs with no homes and all the Fosters are full up to. We need the right home for this great dog so I can save others.

My Neapolitan Master weighs 143 lb and she's 14 years old and still going healthy.
"They are not a dog for everybody" They look like the breed for me.

You talk about the history of the dog but then carefully explain, that through selective breeding, the dog today is not the same dog. Temperament is part of the breed.

In the 70s-80s they were considered the baddest mastiff in the us. Tight skinned and little loose around the neck and it’s best known for a long muzzle for biting extremely hard. And able to have great stability and natural aggression

This is another example of frankinstein breeding all the mastiffs have been ruined by people like yourself. If you have looked at the old photos of the breed you will see that they are completely different and for you to say they don't have health problems am sorry that cannot be true.

I have a Neapolitan mastiff and his name is if you look at the photo you'll see him in my photo there are a lovely dogs and very big dogs and very powerful They're one of the best dogs I've ever had in my life I'm the first person to own a Neapolitan mastiff he is a lovely creature I could never do without him he's always around me he's under my feet he slobbers everywhere but I was one thing I will say there are one beautiful creatures I would never disregard the history of these dogs these dogs are absolutely amazing my dog will always be with me to the day I die I would never leave his side he always there when I'm down when I'm up when I'm happy it doesn't matter how bad I am he will be there no matter what I do or say but this dog loves you to b** mad regardless how bad you are and feel this is these dogs will love you to the end of the earth and they will be text you to the end of the earth cuz my dog does lovely creatures
I once had a Mastino. Sadly, they rarely live longer, than 5 years. Mine died being 3. It is really better to have a Jack Russell; less tears, and after 15, not 5 years.
I'm actually an owner of a Neapolitan mastiff I had him since he was 9 to 10 weeks old he is now turned to years old and I've had him ever since these dogs are absolutely one of the best dogs I've ever owned I've never owned a new plant in massive until I've met my new dog Neapolitan mastiff it's a quite a good experience it opened up my eyes to what these animals were all about it's taking me needed 2 years to learn more about these dogs from my experience of owning a Neapolitan mastiff I must admit they are one of the best creatures that you could ever meet have owned or even be in present of one of these dogs these dogs are very powerful and not to mention very loving and caring dogs when I first got my dog my dog would piss on my bed if not it would pee on the floor it wouldn't bother me because it was just the way it was as you know when dogs go to a new home the nervous and things go wrong but at a time it helps me go through what I was going through at the time not to mention now moving on on 2 years now in it is now been so absolutely amazing seeing an animal this size of my yard of my own as you can see on the left side of your screen you'll see me with my Neapolitan mastiff his head is bigger than my head it makes me laugh but yes these dogs are absolutely a stunning pet to have and a very good guard dog at that if you come to my door my dog will go through the door to get to you if the postman comes to the post box and puts his lettuce letterbox but not to mention he is a lovely creature and I would never change the world for him I'll give him everything I've got because these dogs are absolutely amazing dogs it took me 8 months to learn before I got my new panty mastiff and now I will never look back❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Ive rescued a bull mastiff and 2 English mastiffs. Im adopting a Neo in a couple weeks and so thrilled to have found your video.
By the way they come in more than 4 colours because I checked the Uk kennel club
