The Irish Setter originated in Ireland during the 1700s. Hunters Seeking an all-purpose hunting dog, it is believed developed the dog by crossing English Setters, Gordon Setters, as well as a variety of pointers and spaniels. The end result was the Irish Setter as we know and love today. The breed was Originally referred to as the “Red Spaniel” or “Red Dog,” the first Irish Setters were used extensively for hunting expeditions as they possessed a keen sense of smell and a keen ability for spotting birds.
it wasn’t until 1875 that the first Irish Setter was imported to the United States (a dog by the name of “Echo”). After showcasing the dog’s natural intelligence and capabilities as a gundog, it wasn’t long before the Irish Setter’s popularity in the United States reached epic proportions; thus, prompting the American Kennel Club (AKC) to officially recognize the breed only a few years later (1878). In the decades that followed, the Irish Setter quickly became one of the most popular dog breeds in America.

I have to say, this is definitely one of the most beautiful and elegant dog breed. The coat is just wonderful. And it is a great combination of hunter and companion. Overall just amazing dog breed. Love the video.
Could y’all do a beginners guide to the Border Collie?!
Une of the thing that you forgot to said was that as first the Arish setter was red and white and that true selectively breeding achieved to have a all red dog.
Arent they beautiful, also i wouldnt recommend playing fetch with sticks ive seen a few dogs get rekt in the throat from catching sticks on the run when one end gets stuck in the ground.
I'm glad you started the video with a field variety. It's important to show how the Conformation show world has changed the proportions of the dog. This seems to be the case for all of the setters and most spaniels.
Could you do the Gordon Setter if you haven't already? And it would be great if you could make the distinction between show and field lines on the screen so people understand. This video showed the field variety again at 3:52.
Irish setters are the most beautiful breed. Ireland produced some amazing dogs. I had an Irish Terrier. He was awesome. When he was untrimmed, he looked like a miniature Irish Wolfhound. Loyal, absolutely fearless, and intelligent beyond belief.,
Looks like a bigger version of english spaniel cocker
My boots are irish setter and so is my dog
They are stunningly beautiful, pictures and videos don’t do that coat justice.
They’re called Red Setters over here in the UK. When I was a kid, my next door neighbour had one called Rusty and he was completely nuts and full of energy. He certainly didn’t calm down at 2 years old 😂 but he was a real sweetheart ❤️
Thanks for doing this…I had requested earlier. Our current lifestyle doesnt allow us to have one, but one day…. 🙂
Beautiful dog.
As a kid living in an apartment in Brooklyn, my mother decided to get an Irish Setter. Based on that experience, he was not a good choice for an apartment, lol. We were kids at the time and lived in an upstairs apartment in NYC…….. bad match for this dog. He was beautiful but he needed to burn up some of that energy and he burned it up on the furniture, the doors and the linoleum as well, lol. Well, that didn't last too long. It was unfortunate but my father realized it was a bad match. The dog ended up going to a great home in the suburbs but they said he still was "energetic" his entire life. Their term of "energetic" was code for being a handful. I'm sure there are plenty of people that have great experiences with these dogs in similar situations, this was just how it worked out in our case.
Had one as a kid. INSANE levels of energy. Not mean or malicious in any way, just very playful. Be prepared to chase, they love to grab things and run off (especially hats off kids heads).
708k subs! Congratulations! I remember when it was just 300k. This is definitely the best dog channel on YouTube.
Can it hold its own during a cyote attack?
My parents showed Irish Setters for years. They sure are beautiful dogs and very sweet.
Thank you for posting this video! Irish Setters aren't as popular today as in the 1980s. I like them because Irish Setters guard with their barks, not with aggressive behavior. They're such cut-ups, thinking all the time, getting into mischief!
the red setter is one of the dogs that are linked between all breeds of dogs but to breeds that emerged before others and lots of them are only ghosts in the register even though they have been alive and not extinct for centuries , as stated in the lots of said offices, but at least the vid report exhibits beautiful dogs like this red 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I have a 5 month old red setter. They're super hyper dogs. Very friendly and silly but quite a handful. The only time I can work in peace is when he naps. He'd play all day if he had his way. Lovely dog for anyone who wants an interactive and active dog. Loves learning tricks and he started to learn them really fast. Very intelligent.Would not recommend for anyone who wants a calm or a couch potato dog.
Hey guys, please if you can shed some light on the breed called HAOFA. It is an ancient breed from extremely remote parts of India. The breed is on a decline and it will help if you all can create awareness about that lovely dog. Thanks!
I just love this breed
This breed is truly Majestic in appearance
I have two English setter dogs that are in heat.
I lost my service dog last night ,for my PTSD, AND today I was talking about Irish spaniels I has a female one growing up but I think the Gorden setter is beautiful and I'm not set on what type of service dog to get ,this is for my PTSD and I'm loosing it today so bad state of mind…I'll calm down the road fast
Mine is 11 and still hyper…..
I’ve had 2 Irish setters in my time they are full of energy, they are extremely smart and they are full of love, absolutely they most awesome dogs you could ever own.
Nice video ❤️
WOW 😳
We just lost our few weeks shy of 14 year old boy. What a great family member and loyal companion he was. He brought us so much energy and fun over the years. He was full of energy until about 10 and got compliments until his final days.
About 8-9 years ago, my rawfed IS caught a rabbit. She was perfectly content for 3 days. Eating the rabbit under a big shaded tree. I was happy because I didn't have to take her to park. These are working dogs, need a lot of exercise..

What a beautiful Irish golden retriever!
Good thing the music is so loud I can't make out what's being said
Looks so much like a cocker spaniel
My next door neighbor growing up had a beautiful Irish setter. Ever since I met her, I knew I wanted one. After my schooling, I plan on getting one. Very informative video. Thanks!
When I was very young my neighbor’s Irish Setter saved me from an attack from three large dogs
I’ll always be in debt to this breed
