Life Expectancy: 8 to 10 years
Steady and solid as an oak tree, the Neo is a guardian rather than an attack dog. They’re always alert and aware, even if it looks like they’re relaxing. If you aren’t home, they simply won’t let anyone onto your property. And really, who’s going to argue with them? When you welcome someone, though, your Neo will accept that person as well, although they’ll probably remain aloof. This isn’t a “hail fellow, well met” kind of dog.
The Neo is affectionate toward their family, but they’re also strong-willed–and big enough to have their own way. Begin training early, be firm and consistent, and use positive reinforcement techniques, such as praise and food rewards. The Neo is best suited to a home with a fenced yard. Although they’re a homebody and not prone to wandering, a fence will help them to know the limits of their property, an important bit of knowledge for a guard dog.
Start training your Neo as soon as you bring them home, while they’re still at a manageable size. Enroll in a puppy socialization class to accustom them to being around other dogs and people. This is extremely important for the Neapolitan Mastiff, who can be aggressive toward other dogs and people if they aren’t taught manners. As with every dog, Neapolitan Mastiffs need early socialization or exposure to many different people, sights, sounds, and experiences. Socialization helps ensure that your Neo puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog.

My dog Athena is a hybrid English and neopolitan she's 18 months 160lbs
I've had 2. Currently have one I got through the neo rescue. They are the most wonderful of dogs…however, the high maintenance aspect of them cannot be overstated. Also, they have a number of health issues that require a very vigilant owner to stay on top of. Another thing is that neither of mine would ever be or been described as being couch potatoes. from puppy age till around 5 years of age, they would play all day every day if they could.
One thing that stands out in mine, especially the big male, He was afraid of nothing…..thunder….gun shots….people with sticks or a bat in their hands….nothing.. But, I raised my voice to him once and he was devastated. I never did it again. They are very sensitive.
Please, as wonderful as they are, DO NOT even consider getting one if you are not as committed as you would be with adopting a child. It really is that important.

I have a Neopalitan Mastif my big baby 👶 weighs 155lbs + and she's very protective like she really doesn't like any1 around me new or not but we have a Shitzu and a cat and he's been around since 2004 so he's a old cat and they chase each other but she hasn't seriously bit the cat she looks like a bite but put her huge jaw around him but no pain or cat noise so she just drewls on the cat then lics him lol so they're a amazing dog they talk to u as if they're trying to speak back it's so cute

Hands down the best fur baby I’ve ever, ever had the privilege to parent! Not for novice owners that want to rule w/heavy hands. Find a conscientious and competent breeder. We spent a lot of time socializing our big girl (188 lbs). You really have to train outside people how to interact w/this breed. We never yelled, spanked or threatened our baby. One word commands started the day she came to her forever home. Trusted this dog w/my life, literally!!! I had my beautiful girl for 12 years before we had to let her cross the rainbow bridge. I will have another one of these gorgeous, intelligent and incredibly devoted/loyal giants before I die. I’m literally bawling w/my loving memories and deep pain over her loss now. R.I.P. my beautiful Vallo
