The Cairn Terrier is a small working terrier developed more than 200 years ago on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where Captain Martin MacLeod is credited with developing one of the oldest strains of the breed.

The Cairn is a Terrier, which means his natural instincts are to bark, dig, and chase. These behaviors can be minimized with training, but they can’t be eliminated. If you don’t enjoy the typical terrier temperament, you should consider another breed.
A Quick Overview:
Group: Terrier Dogs
Weight: 13 to 14 pounds
Height: 9 inches to 10 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12 to 15 years
The Cairn is intelligent and curious. He also has a mind of his own. He will challenge your authority — good naturedly, of course — but you must be able to establish and maintain your role as pack leader, or he’ll get the upper hand.
The Cairn loves the attention of his family. Do not leave him alone for long periods of time or he may become destructive.
The Cairn Terrier often thinks he’s bigger than he actually is. Don’t be surprised if he stands up for himself against large dogs or animals.
To get a healthy dog, never buy a puppy from an irresponsible breeder, puppy mill, or pet store. Look for a reputable breeder who tests her breeding dogs to make sure they’re free of genetic diseases that they might pass onto the puppies, and that they have sound temperaments.

Why does he say “cairn “ like that lmao
Great review
Best breed in the world. Not as overtly friendly as Golden Retrievers or certainly not as obedient as a Doberman or a German Shepherd, but pound-for-pound personality/lovingness/loyalty/playfulness/intelligence: the best dog breed in the world.
I miss our little Jocky Jack to this very day. He passed away some twenty years ago, at about 15 or so years in age. He was blind in his last few months. So many memories. He wasn’t the keenest on strangers, but he loved his family so very much. Gone, but never, ever forgotten.
This is the terrier I have now with my pearl color Chihuahua. Rosa is my terrier's name. Good watch dog small but a very strong determined breed even surviving parvo. My little Rosa is stronger and has more muscle that she is heavy to hold but I think she is adorable.
It's pronounced 'Kern,' not 'Kerin.'
Martinn Scorsese the Cairn Terrier was rescued 14 years ago and co stars as B.I.N.GO in this Buddy Bear Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eoi5aAfD6FE
Is it just me, or does the narrator keep referring to the Cairn as Karen terrier? Not the best advertisement for the beed, if he is!
My parents used to have a wheat colored cairn terrior named Bailey. She was a firey and squeeky dog, but we loved her, and miss her.
I'm certainly interested…….
We have a toxirn (Cairn/Chihuahua mix) and she looks a lot like the dogs in the video! She definitely got the digging gene.
I usually shy away from smaller breeds. But I will most definitely make an acceptation for the Cairn Terrier. Ours have such a personality and they are super active. Great breeds they are.
I love my cairn terrier, he is a digger, adopted him from humane society, about a month ago
Correst pronunciation is "Can" not "Karen"
well this seems like the dog to go rock hounding with
I love them! Our little intefix is the best<3 He learns and memorize tricks SO easily, he still plays and acts like a puppy even though he is eight 🙂 He gets along with other dogs and people in general. He also obeys all of our family members and he is respectful, lovable and adorable <3
I have a new dog she's a cairn terriers her name is Gracie she comes in 4 weeks she's four weeks right now
Lmao ok one of them looked like a Karen 1:18
Is it just me or are Cairn terriers being bred to a toy size?
Its not a Carin "care-in".. Its a Cairn, pronounced "Cairn" in one syllable
I am sorry for being such a picky person but it’s not Karen it’s Cairn. No i n on the end. Just plain Cairn. Just a simple correction
