    My basenji howled exactly one time in 11 years, before we lost him to liver failure. He whined but never chortled, barked, growled, or make any other chatty sounds. I still miss him.

    I saw a trivia question about this type of dog and how its the only dog that doesn’t bark, but seeing all the different sounds that it makes and if it’s continual like an air raid in the video …I’m not sure if that’s a whole lot better if you were trying to avoid a dog that didn’t bark? 😂

    I have had and shown Basenjis for 41 years. I would never own another breed. They are perfect as far as I am concerned. Can’t bark No Dog odour very short hair. Another thing they are so dedicated to their owner. My boys follow me around the house all the time and love cuddling up to me in bed ❤️

    Lived with two many years ago and the male fully hated my sister from the moment they met. As soon as she opened the door, even if he couldn’t see her, that little dog made the most ferocious of sounds! Not exactly a bark or growl, but absolutely full of hatred and it didn’t stop until she left. Smart dog.

    Sometimes the silences can express just as much as yodeling etc (when oft subtle facial and especially eye expression are factored into the equation of ((sentient?)) intelligent nonverbal communication) I suppose. Lol

    Basenji looks so very similar to Indian Pariah Dog. Besides the fact that they don't bark, it would be difficult to differentiate between the two.
