In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Airedale Terrier that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Terrier Dogs
Weight: 40 to 65 pounds
Height: 21 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 10-13 years

The Airedale is a hard-working, independent, and athletic dog with a lot of drive, energy, and stamina. He is prone to digging, chasing, and barking — behaviors that come naturally to terrier breeds. These traits can be frustrating to owners unfamiliar with the Airedale personality.

If you are thinking about an Airedale, consider whether you are willing to live with his propensity toward potentially undesirable behaviors — and whether you want to take on the challenges that go along with his independent nature. If you decide you are, you will be delighted with the Airedale’s active, fun-loving, even comical attitude.

The Airedale is a lively breed, and he needs plenty of activity. Don’t leave him alone for long periods of time, or he is likely to become bored, which leads to the aforementioned destructive behaviors. Keep training interesting and fresh — repetitive exercises will become a bore to the Airedale. He is best motivated by treats and other positive reinforcement methods; drill-and-jerk training methods should be avoided. A reliable watchdog, the Airedale takes pride in protecting his family. He can be a fierce guardian but is friendly with his family and friends.

  1. My Airedale was called Morgan.. he stood 25.5" inches.. and was built like a tank.. he passed away in 2012.. I miss him a lot.. he wasn't a dog to trifle with…

  2. Love my king. He put a bear up a tree and would not stop barking untill i showed up to see. My pit ran and hid. King is now with the goats for the winter and I strongly believe their is nothing he wont scare away and am 100% confident my goats will be safe this winter. I just miss him being inside and my cuddles but hes got a very important job to do.

  3. I’m on my third airedale. They’re great dogs. I’m often stopped by people that want to know more about them.

  4. Yes, you're all a bunch that were let out of some barn by my lineage, that's all of you, for ratting out on your Osmanli Empire Founder, Owner, & Emperror, due to your wive's issues with the local goat Rashid in Naعj, while begging by my garbage for food…

  5. We just acquired our 5th dale
All different w quirks but all have similar traits.
    Great sense of humor..
Love to be loved but not needy.
    Happiest w their people.
They can be a rug and next minute ready to go.
    They need interaction & stimulation.
We have blessed with each one a gem.

  6. my Lucky is 12 now. blind and deff. by far the best dog i ever had. i love him more than life it self.

  7. I have a dog: – name Karina familia Shiott: – airedale terrier.
the breed is resistant to distemper, jumps very well, mine jumped on a children's wooden training ground, jumps in height above 1.5 meters and in length more than 2 meters, if trained, it swims very well, can be a hunter, but only with appropriate training.
the dog is smart, unlike breeds such as Dobermans and Caucasian Shepherd Dogs, which have no intelligence at all.easy to train.
the dog must be kept close to a large space so that he has access to the nature of which he is a part.

  8. Smartest dog ever. Favorite activity is car rides .very stubborn though. Super friendly loves meeting new people and going new places

  9. I always wanted an airdale. For the reason no flea's and down here on the south we have that problem plus they can be trained as a service dog or as a companion dog that is one thing I love about an Airedale

  10. My family had a amazing Airedle my Father got him
When we were very young under 5years there were
Three kids and my mom &

If need be would not take a back step to any I mean any other bread when if came to
a porly behaived bread. or some of those anti- socail
    Breads or just ill temperd
    Breads or mixed bread and
or poor dog owners you know
    the type of irresponceable dog
Owner who doesn' t really care. Any way our Ringo wpuld watch over us kids so intently
    Like a secret service agent
    Watchs over the president of
the United S tates. Such an intelligent strong, brave, & loyal bread. Like I mentioned
RINGO would never take a backward step to any other
Dog bread when i came to protecting us childern and fami ly from ill temperd Dogs and people for that matter. Such a smart dog , the few times he did fight other dogs was always a last resort. But don't
Cross our Ringo he fought like
A lion when it came to protecting us kids.He was never ever on a leash even when going to see the Vet . Would
met us kids up the street everyday same time of day
to greet us on our way home
    from school ,what a dog!!!
He did that for well over17 years!. Not joking! Ringo Star
Lived 18 years 7 months. Yes
    That's right! 18 years 7 months
Amazing …. we findly had to put him gently to sleep from old age he at the end had Arthitis and lost his sight
    at 18 seven months later
my dad tokd us we had to put
Him down.I held him while my
    Mentor and boss gave him
    His injection Dr. Bronschwag.
the owner and founder of the Marin pet Hospital. In San Rafael, Marin county California. One of the greatest
Vetenarians of that time its where I worked for ten years.
    Through middle school and
    High school. Ringo Star
1970 to 1988 now holds today
As far as Dr. Bronschwagg has
    Known for a standard Airedale
    18 & a half years old stands
    Today still the oldest Airedale
on record !!!well, at least in California!!! Ive owen quite a
Few breads in my 57 years
and I can tell you unaquificlly
No other dog bread even comes close. Miss you buddy!!!
Excuse my poor spelling and grammer. Was trying to type
and drive on my way to lake Tahoe from marin but felt I had
to write a commet.on our amazing dog and bread…
    Jeffrey Sabella Marks….

  11. My wonderful guy is my 4th Airedale, he rubs he's head against my leg and looks up at me when we're out for a walk all the local dog's seem to love him especially the puppies and the local cat's seem to come up and make friends. As a lifetime Airedale owner this is not normal.
A few previous airedales never lost and loved fighting and one was incredible smart, my girl who would make it look like the other dog had started the fight. And she would con family members to get what she wanted.
They're all different it up to you to bring the best out in your Airedale. The most misbehaving airedales end up as the best . Or perhaps I've learned how to control them from treating extremely well?

  12. We have had Airedales in our family for over a century. My father was brought up with a dog called Jock in the 1930s. At that time Hitler was just seen as a joke and I have a photo of Jock doing a “Heil Hitler” salute. He would also roll over on his back if you asked him to “die for King and Country”
I have had three Airedales since 1982 and two have lived to be nearly sixteen. Great characters, wonderful with children, would always turn the other cheek in an initial confrontation with another dog but woe betide the other dog should it become nasty!
Another interesting thing was one of the Bitches Lena was becoming a little slow and stiff aged fifteen and runs down the farm road to the lake had turned into walks. If a rabbit or fox appeared it would be “Whatever, been there done that, not enough energy to chase today!” Arrived at the lake and she suddenly became animated charging around , very excited, nose to the ground, so much so that I had to catch her as I thought she may have a heart attack if she carried on.
She died peacefully later that year and I was down at the lake a year later and suddenly an otter appeared. Never seen one here before so the Otterhound genes that had been dormant for fifteen years suddenly were activated!

  13. Only dog I know that could be trained to close the kitchen door to the garden after she had opened it. She did not have to be trained to open it!

  14. Airedale Jack was attached to The Sherwood Foresters… a plaque dedicated to Jack is in the Imperial War museum.

  15. We have had many Airedales currently no. 8 and no.9 We love their independence, tenacity and their family oriented nature.

  16. The story of the 'Dale who earned the Victoria Cross is pure Airedale. They are strong and SO tough. They are probably too tough for their own good as they don't really complain about injuries – you really have to watch them closely and be very aware when they start acting even slightly differently.

  17. I love dogs but I have asthma and allergies to the dander. I love the Airedale terrier but I'm not sure it will be a protection dog from my family could you please let me know whether or not this dog will protect my family in the middle of the night

  18. Your videos are very informative. Do you know anything about the orange ( mountain) Airedale?
