To Be Clear: The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy dog according to The Kennel Club. Cavalier King Charles spaniels, while a relatively new breed recreated less than a century ago, were based on the toy spaniel dogs that had been bred for nobility and royalty for centuries. This dog breed was bred to be a companion, but still retains many of the energetic traits of their spaniel ancestors. As a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owner, they’re some things you must avoid doing when it comes to your dog and in this video, we bring to you 5 things you must never do to your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Scarlett is our Ruby Cavalier and just celebrated her 2nd birthday. You are spot on in your advice! The only issue we have with her is barking when she sees someone because she’s trying to get their attention so they come and pet her. Any suggestions? We’ve tried treats when she doesn’t, a noise/vibrate only bark collar and while both help, she still goes ballistic on walks.
My dog ge is 7 years old now full of energy and getting so friendly with children. He lives children than adults. The problem here he licks a lot both children and adults. Any good solution to resolve this concern. Thank you. Annie
I have a cavalier named Isabelle. When you said never use your dog as a guard dog, I looked over at Izzy. She always is looking out the window. Whenever someone knocks on the door, she runs to the door and begins to bark. But when someone comes in, she loves them! Lol 😂
My Phoebie is a 9 year old tricolor Cav. Of all the dogs who have been my companions over the years, she is the sweetest, most gentle girl ever. Great with other dogs, a wonderful therapy visitor for over 8 years and a very sensitive little beauty! She is prone to ear infections, and I must monitor her ears very carefully. Also now has a grade 2 heart murmur that we carefully monitor. Best little girl EVER!!
The most loving dogs ever. Sweet tempered, too.
I have a king Charles caviler, I want to know how to get him to be more active
Hi, we have had a cavalier King Charles spaniel for 5 years and want to get her a little brother (another pup, same breed) but the cab we currently have can get very jealous … she would never hurt the pup but I have just thought because she has had our attention all to her self for 5 years I don’t think she would be okay with the attention shared. What do you think?
I work 8 hours a day, however I have a dog (maltese). I am not sure but it would be a good solition to buy Cavalier King Charles for me? Would be easier with 2 dogs to stay together alone? 🤔
We have had our Cavalier for almost 3 years. We got him at 12 weeks old. He is so loving and sweet. He seems to take to anyone and also seems to prefer people over other dogs, although he does get along great with all the dogs in the neighborhood. He eats well, loves treats, and is a perfect pet. He is quite smart and let's us know when it's time for his daily golf cart ride which he loves. He travels beautifully in the car and really enjoys going for rides. We were able to completely potty train him in two weeks. He is a super addition to our family.
they do LOVE pets and attention … and, they're like cuddly 8 month old babies ! (once, our girl did not even notice when a Maintenance person came in the place, and they did not notice her either) we were lucky with just low grade murmur, but after too many years of people snacks like, fatty meat bits and cheese and eggs; she was lucky to survive pancreatitis …
I just had to put my 14 year old Cavelier King Charles to sleep last week. He had a heart condition, fluid in his lungs and severe arthritis but he still managed to celebrate his 14th birthday with a smile on his face! I’m gonna miss him for the rest of my life! He was a lot of work health wise, especially by the end but he was completely worth it coz he was the most loving dog ever! ❤️
Thanks!
My first Cavalier king Charles Spaniel is now 7mths old and smart as a whip, they are a lovely breed xx
He's being Owner Trained as an assistance and ESA. After 30years watching and helping my mum train guide dog puppies, I have found many of the techniques easily applicable and highly effective with such an intelligent breed, they are perfectly suited to the role. X
All of the above. Thanks for the tips
I have 5 and mine are rarely at the vets (anal glands every now & then) but they are fed on a raw diet. I could highly recommend this type of diet for your Cavaliers. But please do it correctly. It isn't just putting some chicken down or some minced beef, it has to be balanced like all diets. What it isn't is putting processed carbohydrates through some very dodgy Heat processes to produce a biscuit. So please please please really research how you are going to feed your precious furbaby.
Also as a minimum your breeder should be able to provide results for
Clear Doppler Heart – if not doppler then not all conditions may have been picked up
Eye tests by a specialist
MRI scanned for SM & CM
DNA clear for Dry Eye, Curly coat & episodic falling
Luxating Patella scores
Hip Displacia checks.
It is highly likely that not all breeders will do all of these checks but there are a few in the UK who do.
You should be able to to see pups with there Mum, dad may not be present but documents & copies of health tests for both parents should come with your puppy.
We have a 3 mo cockallier, but she's got all of the KCCS markings. She's very smart, but rarely barks. Only barks during playtime, otherwise she's the most quiet dog I've ever had.
My caviliar spaniel loves food😅
My male Cavalier is 12 years old. He started having seizures at three years old, and now has an enlarged heart and liver and is on four pills a day. Apart from delicate health he has been the most wonderful dog imaginable. We are picking up a Cavapoo puppy from a very responsible breeder this weekend. Hoping it will have the lovely nature of the Cavalier without the health issues.
Charlie is a new addition to a cat family of 2, he is about to be 3 months old. He is playful with the cats (1 cat, 1 kitten) and they get along great. He’s friendly and so loving. Took him to get his first check up at the vet and they heard a heart murmur and is now on the waiting list for a cardiologist to check further.. anyone have the same situation with a pup that young?

Cooper is my first Cavalier, but your comments are spot on! It's like you were describing him. Very informative… Thank you.
I love my ruby Cavvie with all my heart. He's so sweet-natured, affectionate and happy, but he's sure full of bounce and was squirming and leaping at 7 weeks – now almost 7 years and still full of beans. I always thought Cavaliers were docile, but mine sure isn't. He's pretty hyperactive, specially round other people. Does anyone else have a hyperactive Cavalier?
yeah, I got one and it's one of the best dogs I've ever had. If you get one be prepared to have one of the most popular dogs in the dog park with people (kids in particular) going out of their way to see if they can pet and play with your dog.
My dog is 10 years old, just started with heart problems 😢😢😢

It's as if you made this video about my dog. Haha 🐶💜
