This is a video about the dog breed Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, from the www.naturallyhappydogs.com website.
In this video, we meet the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen.
Gavin Robertson has been involved with the breed Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen for 25 years and judges as well as shows the them.
The long name of the breed basically describes it. Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen literally means a small, low to the ground, rough coated dog from the Vendee region of France. The rough coat was particularly useful for their original purpose of hunting in rugged, rough terrain.
They seem to be an easy going, slightly mischievous, dog that loves to be out walking but like any hound can’t always be guaranteed to come back.

Anyone recommend a good PBGV breeder that ships?
If you could separate the Petites from the Grands from the same litter up until 1976, then why are they known for having different temperaments, different activity level, different thought process (ex. Bassets think then give chase, Petites jump at something without thinking)?
Thank you so much for that Gavin, very interesting and informative.
I love so many dog and cat breeds it's so damn hard to choose. But I'm leaning toward a PBGV and a ragdoll cat.
thank you for the information. i 've had old english sheepdogs but now i'm older looking for a smaller dog. this one sounds great
One of my friends has one of these
"Busy little dogs" — yup! Although their energy level is much more manageable than a lot of other breeds. I have one, and he is so small that he tires himself out just by zooming around the house when I'm not able to walk him. I live in a small apartment and briefly considered a German Shepherd…that would have been interesting lol.
Es adorable :3
Great breed & nice presentation
We have been given one. Didn't have a clue as to his breed. Took him to our groomer and she looked up PBGV AND there was our pup. Love him so very much.
Do they slobber?
Thank you for this information. Can you recommend a breeder in the US?
😀プチバセット大好き💕日本で滅多に居ません。
Brilliant video, Thank you Gavin, you are the expert in this breed, loved it when Jilly won Crufts best in Show ❤. My PBGV is a wonderful dog, just as you described, great temperament etc, she lives with 2 Shelties and she is the boss lol. Aimees hair gets very tangled, she goes for walks in the woods and other rough areas, so is quite high maintenance, I use a knot buster on her coat. I love the breed and hopefully will have more in the future.
How much exercise is needed for PBGV and when do the "settle down"?
I love your videos Gavin and Sarah! I got my PBGV from a shelter as a puppy. It's still a mystery where she came from but she is beautiful, just like these dogs. My dog lives on a farm and leads me to the bramble full of rabbits. She is big for a PBGV so I wonder if that is the reason she was abandoned. In any case this dog has won my heart. Forever PBGV!
Great video, learned alot.
I have just watched this video as suggested after watching other dog ones. I googled the breed and I found out that one of his dog has just won Westminster 23? Possible? If I am right, congratulations! Lovely dogs, they have the look I am after but maybe not the best choice for city flat life.
I want to se a PBGV, Basset, Corgi and Dachshund be crossbred for a few generations. For science!
Beautiful
Très beau on dirait le mien
Hi Gavin, I acquired a dog in April this year in Spain that if not a pure petit basset looks to have been mixed with one. No authority as yet has been able to place her. They call them by the genetic name of ‘teckel’ here in Spain or as the vet named her a cross teckel. But she’s nothing like a dachshund. She is wire haired, has the stout stature of the petit basset but she’s a fawn/gold colour and more of a slightly pointed nose. Eyes and ears droopy. I’m wondering can I send you a private message via email and share her pic to perhaps shed light on her? I’m getting her DNA done soon. Cheers. Richard Cruz
I have 2 that were gifted to me from the hunt club. They are absolutely lovely. I have 4 beagles and they fit in perfectly ❤
They are the best breed. We had one who was crossed with lahsa apso.
