Today on Animal Watch I meet one of history’s most iconic and beloved dogs — the mighty Boxer.
A direct descendant of the old German Bullenbeiser, the fearless hunting mastiff once used to tackle wild boar and deer, the Boxer still carries the power and athleticism of his ancestors. From Europe’s brutal era of bull-baiting, to his heroic service as a war dog in both World Wars, this breed has stood beside humans through some of history’s toughest chapters.

Yet for all that strength, he remains a joyful clown — a squishy-faced comedian with deep, soulful eyes and a bond so strong it feels ancient. He pretends to be silly… but underneath he’s clever, observant, and always ready to switch from playmate to protector in a heartbeat.

Typically **57–63 cm (22–25 in)** tall and **30–36 kg (66–80 lbs)**, the Boxer’s muscular, spring-loaded frame can knock you flying in excitement — and then melt into your lap as the gentlest family companion.

Yes, the Boxer has long been criticized for his shortened muzzle. But responsible breeders across the world are now reshaping the future of this breed — lengthening muzzles, improving breathing, and restoring the Boxer to the athletic, healthy dog he was always meant to be. And it’s working. The Boxer is making an astounding comeback.

Meet the Boxer — warrior, jester, guardian, snuggle-buddy, and one of the most loved dogs in history.

  1. I love these dogs. They really are so sweet and pull on your heartstrings. They keep you smiling. 😂 My brother has one named Clyde. He is so affectionate. Also I get to live next to one because my neighbor has a white one named Penelope. She is the neighborhood darling. ❤ ..everybody comes running out of their house to pet her when they see the owner walking her. 😊

  2. Nice video Anneka !❤

Beautiful Boxers😅❤ and i see they have great thick bone structures(limbs), which is nice 👌👍.

Soo many boxers these days in last 15-20 years have thin bones(fore & hind legs).

Seeing this video, I remembered my brindle Boxer boy from 15+ years ago😂

  3. One of my first memories from childhood was our boxer. We were on vacation and she was my only playmate. I was 4 or 5. I vividly remember playing badminton with her, I put the racket in her mouth and started playing lol. She stood there with the racket in the mouth patiently, never dropped it to chase the ball. This is probably just my imagination, but I think she actually tried to hit the ball with the racket a couple times lol. Then I let her off the hook and started just throwing it so she could retrieve and she came back to me and dropped it so I could throw it again. Adored that dog! This was in the early seventies, I'm curious how healthy the breed was back then?
We got another one when she passed away, she was equally fantastic. If I was to get another dog now it's going to be a boxer, no doubt about it.
Damn I miss having a dog now, it's been 10 years.

  4. I see these are EU show lines I can’t speak for them but the AKC dogs are wonderful friendly dogs but most of the original working temperament is gone. They aren5 a great guard dog imo. I owned one. I called her Ghandi a loving gentle dog.

  5. I grew up with a boxer . He was my best friend as a kid. He was goofy and very patient with me . One time he protected me from two stray dogs that tried to attack my mom and I while walking him. I dont know how he handled those two dogs so quickly. Best dog I ever had.

  6. A great program, but I wish you'd also shown some working boxers. They work in tracking, IPO, Obedience, Hooper, Agility, Scentwork, etc.

  7. Today's Boxer dog looks nothing like its ancestor. I wonder if the original "Boxer" they are referring to was more of a Pitbull type dog.

  8. WOOOW BABY YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL HUN SMILES SETTING CHOREOGRAPHY SCRIPT SUCH AN AMAZING SPACE NEVER STOP I LOVE YOU ILL DIE JUST KIDDING 🤷🏻😘❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥🥰🥰❤️❤️🔥🔥❤️❤️🥰❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥MUCHO MUCHO CALIENTES ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️🥰

  9. Anneka is so talintid. i love her videos they are so good!!!!. you guys should watch the wolfdogs with Anneka . she is so good with wild animals.

  10. Me and my wife are picking up our first boxer in a few days. Shes almost completely white so we are worried about her hearing but we will love and take care of her all the same if she does turn out to be deaf.

  11. Greetings from Switzerland! My male Boxer reached an impressive age of 17, and all my female Boxers lived to be between 10 and 12 years old. I truly love this breed. They come with me to the office every day and behave calmly and reliably throughout the day. After work, they join me and my horse for rides — attentive, relaxed, and obedient. My dogs rarely need a leash and follow me with the precision of soldiers❤
