Hey, fellow dog fanciers and whippeteers! My name is Addie, proudly owned by 6 gorgeous whippets currently (10 throughout the years), and I have been surrounded by pets since day 1. The world of show dogs, dog shows and responsible breeding has been keeping me busy since the age of 12 and this channel is especially created to educate on these controversial topics

  1. Than you Addie. Both this video and the previous one (the one I didn't comment on) isn't just about whippets, of course you focus on Erys and the gang but the principles are valuable for all the puppies in the world. Again thank you! PS: I call that a pier.

  2. Aggressive dogs are to be avoided at all costs when they are young, especially.
Our Whippet leapt out of an open upstairs window when she was suddenly afraid of the vacuum cleaner at about 5 months.
She landed on a springy Wisteria vine which saved her legs.
    A scary lesson learned.

  3. Fireworks go off here, huge displays over the road. I ignore scared behaviour, too. Even if I say ''it's okaaaaay'' in a soothing voice, she gets scared! Ignoring is definitely best. Or get a nice licky mat out with beef paste.

  4. Good info, thanks. I'm glad you didn't have a lasting problem with the fireworks. My guy has been such a contradiction. I realized on night one he had crippling SA. We tried to leave him for just 15 minutes, and came back to find him a drooling, shaking mess, and he had completely had diarrhea and pee all over his pen. But strangely, other than that he was bomb proof. It shocked me how little he was affected by incredibly loud noises and other scary things outside. Fireworks… Couldn't care less. Then he hit about 5 YO, and it was like some genetic trigger went off. Suddenly every little sound he heard indoors, put him into a massive meltdown. He got to the point where he couldn't live properly. Nothing I tried helped. I finally had to give in and put him on prozac, It has helped him greatly with virtually all of his anxiety issues. The problem has been keeping it balanced, which has taken a lot of research and learning. I've found most vets know very little about about SSRI drugs. Interestingly, I recently met a women who has a 5 YO who's also a fawn like mine, who also started doing the exact same thing out of the blue, at the same age. Which makes me think it's a genetic issue.

  5. Thank you for the great tips!
I wish I had done this with my whippet boy when he got scared by some kids at a park. I thought he was doing ok until he peed himself he was so scared of them :(. since then he has always been terrified around 3-10 yr old children. We don't have many small kids that we know near us, but when we did visit family with small children, we were able to control the environment, and he eventually was ok with them playing around him.

  6. I like your methods but I disagree a bit about the comforting part. I dont babytalk our dog (lalbradoodle so also a bit scared) either, but I bearhug her when something really bad for her happened. You know like the hug your parents give you when you really hurt yourself. There s a difference to babying, my husband doesnt do that and I ve noticed that she comes to me when she s really scared. Since I absolutly dont want her to bolt, I m happy with that option. She also doesnt get more scared from me hugging her.

  7. I am often amazed by how inconsiderate people are shoot fireworks. They are scaring not only pets but also wild animals. Don't they have any compassion?

  8. My last whippet was terrified of thunder and I felt terrible that I couldn't do anything for her. The word is pier. (sounds like peer)

  9. I bought a 2 year old whippet, and she is very afraid of my husband from the day one. Nomatter what he does, it does not help…. she is just terrified.😢 Any suggestions how to improve the situation?
