At the dawn of the XIX century Australian cattlemen began to develop new vast pastures to the West of the Sydney area. Soon they had to face the problem of handling domestic animals in these incredibly prosperous but still difficult terrains. Moreover in such conditions formerly well-behaved cattle went almost feral and hardly controllable. Foreign herding canine varieties that helped ranchers previously coped poorly with necessity of operating effectively for hours on end in torrid Australian climate and barely passable terrain. It became rather evident for early Australian cattle-breeders that they required a tough and clever dog that would be able to handle wayward cattle without injuring or frightening it.
A stock-breeder named Timmins was the first who tried to implement this ambitious goal. In the 30s of the XIX century he mated a local Dingo with the Smithfield and received red dogs with diminutive tails. Despite the fact that this initial hybrid (so-called «Timmon’s Biter») remained silent while working with animals, it managed them by brutally snapping instead of mildly nipping at their heels.
Nearly ten years later Thomas Hall, an Australian landowner, performed another, more successful breeding experiment of crossing the Dingo with the Scottish Blue-Merle Smooth Collie. The resulting dog became known as a Hall’s Helleres and deserved the reputation of an efficient and quiet cattle drover. Hereafter it was crossbred with the Timmon’s Biter, Black-and-Tan Kelpie Sheepdog and Dalmatian. By 1893 the Australian Cattle Dog acquired in its hallmark red or blue speckled colouration as well as its spectacular talents in ruling the wilful cattle.

Great vid👍🏻
Why does she speak like a robot?
I'm gonna get a red and a blue and name them Ying and yang
Thanks for your video. Please check out my original, homemade songs, He Wasn't Just A Dog, Go'n Downtown and Evergreen (We Remain). Thanks for listening. If you like these songs, please ask a friend to take a listen. Thank you.
Errrrr…all small children need to be supervised around dogs. P.S. my ACD is terrified of cockroaches let alone cats. I am becoming 'unpredictably aggressive' and 'destructive' listening to this nonsense.
They are called Queensland blue heelers. , But I never saw many of the breed in this line up. They are called heelers because they were trained to race in and nip any reluctant cattle on the heel. Pity an American did this. The breed was bred in Queensland . The Smithfield breed of these dogs are dangerous and will bit anyone including its owner. Get a cranky one and you will regret it big time.
why use the damn computer voice?
About the most truthful video I've seen on them! See it all to often people complaining about nipping or dislike of strangers or attacking other dogs and eating small creatures, research the breed!
Altho I'm sure there's something to this, I've noticed outstandingly smart dogs among many different breeds and dumb ones as well! I think that, like with human races, intelligence is highly variable within a given race or breed. ie. there are very smart ones and very dumb ones within each race or breed. To try and make assumptions about entire groups is somewhat futile, and one would have to test MANY animals in each breed to come up with a reliable guess.
Couldn't stand to watch this Coz of the STUPID robot voice
what is with robot broad hard to watch with this robot
Best dog ever.
Had a blue Merle stumpy tail He was the ugliest dog at the adoption center. When I chose him and took him for that first walk, he was more than any dog I had owned. More loyal, more traiable, more obedient, smarter, energetic, and amusing, I met him when he was three. He and I were buds for 11 more years. The shelter where I adopted him named him "Opie" I told him "that's your slave name and changed it to Mic. He was so fast and agile when he did a sharp fast cut his chest
side and the cheek of his face was in the grass. He would read the minds of the cattle and knew what they were thinking about doing but Mic was there to let them know he couldn't be had. Loved him, miss him, God only made one Mic, and I was blessed to have him in my care and for him to share so much with the children and I.
Robot voice makes the video STUPID!!!!!
The voice drives me CRAZY!
You know this might be a lot more liked if you get rid of the stupid robotic voice and make it more personable with a actual human voice because those are actually great dogs
Ughhh I hate the robot voice!!! And she says that they were bred to herd sheep but then why does the breed say Australia CATTLE dog??? You really got to get your facts right before making a video
I immediately turned the volume down… She-robot was annoying lol… very beautiful display of Australian Cattle Dogs… great job on choice of pictures, wide variety of coat patterns. I have been raising these dogs in my family for 25 years now. I wouldn't own another Breed of Dog. These dogs are unmatched in their category.
I think a pitbull would have it's hands full with one of these rascals. They look extremely powerful and determined. Beautiful dogs!!
if you want to see the extent of intelligence on these dogs watch this video it's from the show Pet Stars host Mario Lopez,
this dog has already passed but he will live on in videos enjoy.

Fuck ur voice made with software
Beautiful dogs
screw that monotone robot voice, its done my head in. This is one of the greatest and best dogs yu will ever have the pleasure of owning, The other being the Australian kelpie, yu cant really seperate them.
I had a really sweet smokey grey kelpie, and a yella heeler bitch from pups. They were best mates with each other and me. Both got stolen off me, on the same day and i havent had another dog since, although a wild dingo befriended me when i was working out the scrub. That was very different.
Give a heeler a good run, a bone and a pat and they are happy as larry.
Both of these dogs will save yor life, or those of yor kids if they are given the task. They dont show much fear of anything usually, especially for their own saftey. Wild pigs goanna's, bulls, goats yu name it, ive seen them, try their hand at rounding up ducks even.
Wow thanks for the info robot!11
I just can’t watch this. Damn voice
Finally, an ACD video addressing all of the breed traits that result in their disproportionate numbers in shelters and rescues.
Thank you for hopefully preventing the abandonment of this great dog by unprepared and unsuspecting families. Not whitewashing the ACD's full spectrum of behaviors may help make the ACD a better pet for someone.
Oh, let's no forget shedding either.
Ok I’m getting a puppy so I hope it is good with my other dogs
what a fucking stupid video for the voice over alone
