  1. I have a Red Heeler and he is 1 year 4 months old. He is absolutely fantastic. I read a bunch of traits before I got him and one was that they only shed twice a year but as you said he sheds quite a bit and it can be a bit of work cleaning the house often .

  2. I got one. He was half pitfall. Steve Irwin and I walked six miles a day. I had 27 cats over the years. I could never say no. Steve Irwin did nip once. I fell down the stairs. Otherwise he was calm and gentle. He loved cats. Best dog ever!

  3. My red heeler is nothing like this description. She's a sniffer, not a herder. She's very protective of me but calms down when I tell her she's ok and I'm ok. She does shed alot. Woo. She has a terminal cancer now at age 11 but she's still eating well and goes with the dog walker 3 times a week as I've become disabled and can no longer walk her for an hour or 2 like we used to.

  4. Never experienced any nipping with my Maybeline.

One thing you forgot to mention is the shrill bark acquired from the dingo. It could wake the dead (and neighbors trying to sleep).

My girl even learned how to open doors! Bad thing in the winter.

  5. We just found our Heeler dead last week after 12 years with my family…. Best damn family dog ever. My family deeply misses her because this video shows what she was to us living in the country. Loyal, protective, defensive, loving, caring and yes, the shedding 😆 I miss every part of it…. We miss her sooooo much sad😢

  6. You should’ve led with the shedding 😅 I rescued one about a month ago, and what you said was exactly my thought process. I thought “ok, kinda medium length hair, shouldn’t shed too bad”… boy was I wrong 🤣 and it’s light fluffy hair, so it sticks to everything and flies around! But I still love her 😊 I got her for to be a friend for my tiny pit-mix, and after a couple weeks they were best mates. They spend all day playing with each other so neither one gets bored. ❤ Also the heeler must have been socialized really well in the shelter or prior to it, cuz when I took her to the dog park for the first time she was so friendly with everybody! To or three times she actually went up to people on benches and sat next to them until they started petting her 😂 she’s precious

  7. ny red healer mix was put down cause he ended up being to agressive when defensive and erratic

  8. I was her person and she was my girl. It's true, I left her home with my spouse for just a few days and she wouldn't eat. She loved him too but when he left town she would still eat. Lost her April 9th and I feel like I lost a child. RIP My Ruby. ❤🌈😭 Nobody seems to understand why I'm so heartbroken.💔

  9. They are devoted to their tasks. You MUST have a job or they will create one on their own you may not like.
They can be geniuses you will be amazed at how much they enjoy learning.
They seem to have an inborn awe for YOU. They have great memories. They will be very protective of you and your possessions.
I have goats and belive me, the GENES alone will make these dogs want to 'work' your animals and only need a few words of guidance.
My new pup was NATURALLY CRATE TRAINED a first for me. He was just 8 weeks old and came from an Amish farm. He IS a doggy genius, and about the brighest pup I have ever had and I have had dogs for 70 of my 76 years.
If you would like to participate in agility trials, a Red Heeler could be the dog for you.

  10. EVERYONE LOVES OUR HEALER. HE’s AMAZING. YOUR NEGATIVE. CHANGE YOUR APPROACH

  11. They are absolute teddy bears. This whole video is BS. You don’t know a damn thing about dogs in general or this breed at all.

  12. You are ridiculous! Ours was a rescue that was so trainable and a therapy dog till she died at 14.

  13. My gf has a red heeler/Chihuahua mix. Red heeler body tiny Chihuahua head. Tiny Chihuahua brain.

  14. I have a Red Heeler and he is amazing. This breed is not for lazy owners. Their love, loyalty, intelligence, honest emotion, want to play and exercise, be with their owners all the time. These babies are working dogs, are strong, fast and extremely alert. The learn routines quickly, like children, don't promise something and not do it. They love to follow through and want to please you. They may be more energetic or aggressive than Blue's but I love him and am happy to have him. Don't ever put these Red Heelers down, they are very unique and amazing!

  15. I would never say it was a mistake, but our very first family dog was a blue heeler. His name was indigo and we just put him down a little over a month ago and… I can't describe how much I miss him. I like to think we gave him the best life possible. We were lucky enough to always have someone home, so he was never alone. But his one person was definitely my dad and if dad wasn't around it was me. He slept in my bed even lol
But man, that energy! Even on his very last day with us… I was working and my mom called me to tell me to come home because Indigo just wouldn't get up. We carried him out to the car and drove 40 minutes to the vet. On the drive he perked back up… gave us a little hope. Unfortunately, when they did the ultrasound… there was no saving him. He had cancer everywhere. He'd been acting a little off, but only for about two weeks. We'd gotten him on antibiotics thinking it was just an infection but it was so much worse.
I only mention it because even then when he was brought in so we could say goodbye, he was still running around being a knucklehead. The vet seemed hesitant to even euthanize him because to someone who doesn't seen cattle dog that often she thought he had plenty of energy. But we knew. He wasn't running around to his standards. He wasn't jumping up on us or trying to lick us raw. It was the hardest day of my life to say goodbye to my boy.
Now… I had no idea what a cattledog was when my dad bought Indigo, but I can say with absolute certainty that I will never own any other breed. He wormed his way into my heart and made a heeler shaped hole there.
Now he sits on my mantle in his little blue urn with his collar wrapped around him. It's really hard coming home and not being jumped on the second I walk in the door. It's hard to think about hiking again without my faithful companion. But he gave me his whole life and I will love him for the rest of mine.

Whew, sorry about that if anyone even read this far. I didn't realize that when I was going to just make a silly comment about his energy levels that I was going to be crying all over the place lol

  16. I've rescued two senior male Red Heeler in the last ten years & definitely recommend it to novices & anyone like me that's older & don't have the energy for a valaciraptor puppy! male Heelers after 7 or 8 calm down & become amazing family dog's

  17. Bull shit!!… Buy red dealers the best dog i've ever seen or owed. They were gonna put him down.. He was a Ferrell Dog that they found in the mountains… I literally forced them to give me the dog.. He bit me for 3 months.. Now he's totally trained he loves everybody and he's the best dog in the world
