The symbiotic relationship is a bit parasitic. The crab will only let the anemones have enough food to keep them alive. Any extra food the anemones manage to grab, the crab snatches away. The crab will also cut one anemone in half if it loses the other. This makes two anemones. I think they can still release eggs and sperm, though, so the trade off may be worth getting to spray reproductive juices over a wider area.
Fun fact: it’s so used to only carrying anemones that it’s arms evolved to be weak and useless, and when fighting with another boxer crabs they won’t actually use their arms and will instead use their legs to kick them.
