Australian Cattle Dog Right for You and Your Family?

Is the Australian Cattle Dog right for you and your family? Definitely! We are basing our opinion on just this one dog. As with any breed there are variations on a theme. Mr Cody here is a very nice dog I’m sure there are some others that are not. I think generally speaking, however, if they’re half as nice as this dog then they’re going to be a great dog!

  1. I have a 4 month old female cattle dog…. Ruby. She is so amazing. So smart and so stubborn and so tough!!!!

  2. My cattle dog is like that. He literally all my friends and family's favorite dog. Very out going once they know that what's expected of them

  3. I have 2 1/2 yr old Bluey!! I love my girl, Fraya.
I’ve been training her since I brought her at 5mths old.
That stubbornness is coming out more now. 😂I feel like I have terrible two’s toddler! Wouldn’t change it for the world!! The best gift I’ve received or even given myself!!! Thank you for your helpful tips!❤
Btw, Where did you get your sneakers/boots from? Are they supportive? I have flat feet.

  4. One of the smartest dogs. However I will disagree, they are not for everyone. That is why there are so many in shelters. They need a job.

  5. I have owned 2 red heelers and they were my favorite dogs I've owned in the sense of training and property management when it came to unwanted animals.

One was a rescue off the street with health issues as a puppy and he passed from a massive seizure last year.

My female got rattle snake bit over night because she didn't like sleeping inside the house. She wanted to sleep outside every night.

    I miss them both greatly.

  6. Yeah, ok – get a bitch for a family pet
Males like to roam and will need lots of supervision

Yes, they will take the piss – reds are worse than blues…

  7. This is an exceptionally friendly, docile heeler in this video! Which is a bit misleading for this breed. Many are pretty wary of strangers and do not enjoy interactions with unfamiliar people. Cattle dogs can be very difficult at times and shouldn't be recommended to inexperienced owners. They are absolutely phenomenal for people who know exactly what they're getting themselves into though!

  8. I have a border collie/red heeler and yes you must keep them busy everyday. She loves to herd my husbands cats into a corner. So i trained her to be my husbands service dog. Very smart dog. I taught her one time. To do deep pressure therapy. Now i don't even give her the command. When my husband has a seziure. She does her job. She is my husbands lifeline. They are so smart.

  9. Their a very difficult to understand breed because the high intelligence, they are quick to learn what you want but also quickly recognize shortcuts you allow without realizing. Mine is just over a year old and being my first personal dog I haven’t realized the importance of consistency and patience required. Discovered this channel and really understand what he’s teaching you what to do and what not to do. Going to use this channel to really get him to be the best companion that I can trust to go anywhere with me and not have to worry that I won’t be able to stop and correct his actions.

  10. Live on the Canadian prairies where there are lots of these around & grew up on a farm with them. Hes right about everything he said, you have to train them and give them a job & socialize them well cause they will become destructive & can be nippy to humans. They can chase cattle, be aggressive guard dogs, keep coyotes away. You can bike with them and they will stay 6 inches from you. Train them & they are awesome. Don't & beware. You dont see many of these or border collies in cities cause of there high energy needs so you need space or an active lifestyle.

  11. As a cattle dog owner of an 8 year old acd and a 6 week old acd (she's still with her momma but lives next to me so I see her daily) I agree. ACD are the best family dogs if you put in the work! My 8 year old heeler has been raised with my 9 year old and I trust her with my life and my daughter's. My lab/pittie rescue as well. But I truly believe it depends on the family. If they don't work with their dogs and cats then they are your typical "has started to chew" shelter pup.

  12. So how far did you go with training young Australian cattle dog? Do you have any extra vids of this breed. He is a special breed to look into.

  13. First dog I ever had and she was still the smartest dog I’ve ever met. She had all the doors in my house figured from handles to sliding doors. Also they come knowing how to herd automatically, if you ran she would nip your ankles and herd you, no training. And yeah you are right she could be the most stubborn thing you ever met. Even at 16 years old she put herself between an attacker and my sister and let that guy know he had to go through her. Also never had any aggression issues with kids or our many pets. Yeah you could teach them bite work, I’m sure they can learn anything. I’ve met dogs that can learn more commands but nothing has come close to these for figuring things out on their own.

  14. in Australia they are great guarding dogs, known for being stolen for dog fighting, i personally know of a line that will kill dingoes, when uncontrolled are some nasty nasty dogs. super intelligent, crazy, high energy, stubborn as hell, absolute sweethearts and tough. not a dog for someone who is new to dogs!
