Oh what a lovely video. I especially liked Eleganza, what a fabulous coat. We have more Neos in the UK but I wonder what success has been made extending the longevity? I’ve never seen one in the flesh but would so love to.

These Neopilitan mastiff here on this show are not fit for purpose …allgood for sitting down and being a pet allgood but tis animal on this show would not last half a minute in roman times ..that is truth… or am i wrong ?

I greatly appreciate a breeder of what is really a newly created mastiff dog breed that is honest about health problems and also is working to fix the issues. I would tend to avoid any of the modern breed concoctions that are out there since so many of them were done without much attention to these issues.

Health and longevity? My ass! I have a neopolitian mastiff bandog mix and he looks more like the old neopolitian mastiffs than these dogs.
They ruined the breed when neos became a designer dog and they started breeding them for a more wrinkled look. They felt the more wrinkles, the better. As a result, the health of the dogs became an afterthought. I prefer the working lines that have hardly no wrinkles at all.

My most favorite breed are neon but your goal should be less size and weight and less wrinkles sothey can live and be healthier to they will get obese or have bad joints but try to make them more healthier ok other size I like them but try to make your goal on making them healthier please , ok? I keep rescue Neos and help rehoming them for almost 2 decades. We have yet to come across a healthy specimen. I am fiercly against crossbreeding to get a healthy breed, so we have to eliminate all the sick ones from our breeding stock, which also means breeding fewer dogs!

i'm Not a hater, but any dog breed that cant easy go past 6 years of age probably urgently needs some new genetics brought in or just left to go extinct

Old world mastinos are not good examples of the breed. Unfortunately this interview is very misguided.
you want to extend the life of the neo feed it raw meat / chicken; fish etc. Give them raw milk at least 3 or 4 days out of the week and fast them off the solid food 1-2 days out of the week not allowing the poisons to build up in their bodies and much exercise not allowing them to be couch potatoes. they are after all from the lineage of war and fighting dogs which means they had to have high endurance/stamina.
AKC ruined the Neapolitan Mastiff, just a blob of wrinkles. Haven't they ever seen a picture of the ORIGINAL Neapolitan Mastiff? Nothing like his dogs….
I have heard great things about the PennHIP test. It would be interesting if you could do a video discussing the health tests buyers should be expecting from bully/mastiff breeders.
Working line Neos are the true Neos. Than can move well and look so much better than excessive wrinkles and too much bone. If he truly wanted to improve health and longevity, he’d breed them more like the working line Neos

The real old type looked nothing like these oversized over wrinkled type of modern dogs. In affect the modern type has been ruined and as a consequence short lived and no working purpose of the original breed these modern types are for the show ring and looks! It’s sad the old type was a much leaner and muscular looking dog.
I wouldn't be able to adopt one of these without naming him after Italian ice creams. Gelato, Spumoni, Granita, Zuccoto, Sorbetto, Affogato, Stracciatella. They look like melting ice cream, so why not?
