  1. the only problem I've EVER had with heeler dawgs and children is when my children would be rough housing with there friends around the dawg. they are very very protective of there pack family and 'can' nipp to protect when the screaming or yelling is added to the mix. I had to teach my kids more so then the dawgs to be aware of this and play appropriately….
id NEVER own anything but a heeler dawg… 40 years of experience with this breed….HB

  2. Uhhhhhh… as a person with a heeler who nips at children… the thought of approaching a parent: hey can I collaborate with your child for training? She may get bit but she wont after a while.

.. haha just trying to figure out how those kinds of conversations would go.

  3. Hi there. Best tips for training them not to nip when picking up children? Mine has done so well with most training, however, when I pick my 4 year old up, it makes my dog nuts. He jumps up, nips me, nips my child and just plain freaks out. As much as I trust him, it terrifies me when he does this as I’m afraid if it goes to far he may truly hurt us. We love our guy, but I’ve got to find a good consistent training tool that works for this specific behavior asap. I would greatly appreciate any tips!!!!

  4. My 2 year old and my cattle dog are the best of friends, it's the same with any dog so long as it's properly socialised and trained you'll never have a problem.

  5. My cattle doggie met my son two days old. He smells his head and protects my son from even me. He gentle when my son is in the room. Outside the house…… MONSTER

  6. i was about give away our heeler as 5 year old girl petrified of him and boys get nipped all the time

  7. Scamp

Lived in high sheep country when child
Somehow ended up with blue heeler as our pet.
Was fiercely loyal to us children.
If parents wanted to discipline us
(In those days a "" belting"" scamp ( dogs name) had to be removed from scene and tied up behind wool-shed or would bite and attack them
    Never harmed one of us.
Was our natural protector from snakes, rogue rams.other not so friendly working dogs on place.

  8. My life as a child was saved twice by cattle dogs . They wouldn't let a paedophile near me when I was 5 and walking home from school. The first time I was lost in the bush overnight. I wandered out of the bush in the morning holding 'Cobber's' tail.

  9. Ours is deaf. Almost 2 years old. Without the audio cues it's a little more challenging to curb the mouthiness.

  10. I have a rescue Heeler. He is a little bit of a dingbat, but so comfortable and well behaved around kids. He loves them. My eleven year old is his main person who has trained him to sit, stay, lay down, run obstacle courses, and other assorted tricks. Our pupper is such a smarty pants and we are blessed to get to have him in our family.

  11. Excellent advice. I've had a lot of different breeds. They each came with their natural instincts. Training is important. With each, training was important. I have an ACD, nipping/herding in his nature. As we worked together, understanding and training….Hank is amazing and we're fortunate to have him in our family.

  12. I've been owned by three. LOL
They know the difference between adults (intruders ?) and children.
To watch them roll around together is a delight.
Unfortunately I can't post any pics on here.

  13. I never trusted my acds with my children
My kids only had one face to lose
Has nothing to do with training ,more to do with common sense

  14. fantastic video and very well-behaved dog. Its very hard to teach your dog to be that polite when someone is taking his/her food and this could apply to any breed. Good Job!

  15. Thank you for showing the true nature with proper training of a ACD ❤ I have one and everybody always say omg why would you have one of those! People just go by what they hear and what they think they know! My Loki is the smartest, loving, gentlemen dog I have ever owned ❤
