Poor chickens. A lot of chickens here were slaughtered because of bird flue. As caged chickens has been seen as cruel, farmers have moved to free range. The problem is, birds have been coming into those farms and spreading diseases through the chickens. Farmers are now saying that thousands of chickens have had to be destroyed because public opinion whilst the ones in sheds survived. For me I have no problem with barn chickens. I don't like caged ones. Often the barn chickens here are allowed outside but are monitored. Bit like the chickens we had. We let them out once a day for a couple hours before putting them back. They were happy and it showed in their feathers and eggs.
