Jack Russell puppy train for potty in this video.
If you just got a brand new puppy and it’s having potty accidents all over your house, here are three things you definitely shouldn’t be doing.

To start, many puppy owners are just waiting too long between potty breaks.

According to the American Kennel Club, a puppy can hold their bladder comfortably for as many hours as they are months old plus one.

So for example, a three month old puppy should be able to hold it for four hours.

But if your puppy is constantly peeing in the house and doesn’t have any concept of where they should or shouldn’t go, I’d be taking them out at least three to four times more often than this.

Secondly, I see a lot of puppy owners relying on their puppy to let them know when they need to go, whether it’s with a potty bell or just whining and barking.

And while this is actually a great way to know when your dog needs to be taken out, puppies are notoriously inconsistent with most of their behaviors, and I definitely don’t recommend relying on this before your pup is fully potty trained.

Last is just having too much fun with your pup when they’re going for their potty breaks.

When I take my puppy out to p, they go straight to their designated spot and we stand there until they take care of business.

If they don’t go within three to five minutes, we go back inside into the crate and try again in 15 minutes or so.

Only after they do their business do I celebrate with treats, playtime, or a walk.
